Well, I ONLY have the 350 ... hmmmm
Challenger2,I’m using primarily a hiwatt or SVT tube amp sim in the axe FX as my main tone with a fair amount of drive since I play in a Metallica cover band. These cause a fair bit of nasty high end that is normally trimmed off by the cabinet or impulse response. The axe FX has enough routing options that I could take a send of the amp pre-IR to send to the stage cab and send the IR signal to FOH, but my concern there is the lack of a high end control on the bass arrays. Since if I take the amp sim as is it would probably sound too harsh on stage, but if I roll down the treble/presence on the amp to get the stage sound dialed in, then the FOH tone will be extremely dark.
I’m essentially down to bass arrays or Mesa subway cabs at this point. I really like the line array idea of the Genzlers along with the great horizontal dispersion so I’m leaning towards them as my top choice.
I’m using the Austin Buddy bass pack as the basis for my live tones, which is a really well dialed in pack based around sending amp + IR tones to FOH. All of the sounds there have a tap off the amp sim before the IR to send to a stage cab. I’ve been sending this to my Carvin 410 + 210 rig for my current stage sounds, but it’s basically throws all of its volume forward and the rest of the band can have a hard time hearing me. My concern with trying to dial in a good FOH tone with no cab sim is I use a fair bit of dirt/grit, so the high end can get harsh without the speaker shaping.Challenger2,
I use the Quad Cortex as my pedalboard. I don’t like any of the amp/cab sims in it. I have my own tone that’s dialed in from the Quad where I separate the frequencies with Hi/Lo pass filters. Using an EQ, Bass & Low Mids are compressed, deep & clean. The High Mids & Treble are crisp and slightly distorted using a Darkglass sim. I blend these together as a mono signal and send it to my Genzler Kinetix 800 and BA410/BA210 cabs. FOH gets the DI from the amp. Good FOH engineers will always tweak your signal to fit the room. So, it’s important to send a great sounding direct tone to them. (Most of the time FOH doesn’t need to change much with my tone)
I also run a Turbosound iQ12 monitor from my pedalboard as additional monitoring upstage. Sometimes my Genzler rig is too much in these old theaters. So, the Turbosound plays an important roll on stage.
What I am getting at is…you’d be better off doing something similar. If you can get your direct tone (without IRs) dialed in, your amp will basically act as a monitor. The Genzler Amps and BA cabs are perfect for this! Also, the FOH will get a great direct signal that they can work with for the room. (Amp/Cab sims are great for recording. But, might not work well in most live situations)

I don’t use a QC but I do use an HXS and haven’t been happy lately. I need to try eliminating amp/cab stuff for my live use.Challenger2,

What amps/cabs are you using? I had a helix before selling to get my axe fx. I found the secret to a good helix amp tone is to not rely too much on power amp distortion/high amp MV volumes as that’s when the tone started to fall apart a bit, especially on the SVT models. I had the best success using the SVT pro model on the helix since it was just a tube preamp with solid state power amp so none of the wonky mess of the power amp modeling would affect the tone.I don’t use a QC but I do use an HXS and haven’t been happy lately. Live in Asheville I do find myself in Roanoke area quite oftenIf you're near Virginia, @RocketMusic in Blacksburg near Roanoke did me a solid and sold me on my Genzler system!
I never do. My MG350/12T-V combo is a killer rig in one hand. Keeps up with a modest group easily and handles B string notes as well.PSA: Nobody should EVER apologize for using a Mag 350. It’s a fantastic, great sounding, amp and has balls. There are no “underpowered” Genzler amps.
@Challanger2 --- sounds like you have a complex signal, and signal chain. I think that you'll find many players talk about the clarity and definition that the Bass Array's offer. Either a clear, articulate tone or with overdrive and distortion, the BA cabs are designed to reproduce those tones accurately.I’m using the Austin Buddy bass pack as the basis for my live tones, which is a really well dialed in pack based around sending amp + IR tones to FOH. Maybe I would be able to get away with just a low pass filter on the post amp chain for stage sounds if the high end is too much? Another option I’m considering is just go all in on the bass arrays, ignore the IRs entirely and then just bring my own mics to mic the bass array. Would be a bit more involved setup wise but would let me take full advantage of the bass arrays, and let FOH find the balance of the main drivers vs the array speakers to best fit the mix.
It fits my weekend bassist needs perfectly and the array makes the weird sounding rooms like vanilla puddingPSA: Nobody should EVER apologize for using a Mag 350. It’s a fantastic, great sounding, amp and has balls. There are no “underpowered” Genzler amps.
I’ve learned that fan may be the most important part of the whole rig.Challenger2,

My band is also playing with the idea of getting some IEMs, mainly so that our drummer can hear everyone as the PA stack next to the drums at the last 3 shows we’ve done has died mid gig. I’m thinking of starting with a 115 just so we can have some background stage sound, and then either adding a 210 or 410 for shows at venues with weaker PAs. Would the 115 provide sufficient enough volume on its own for this use case?@Challanger2 --- sounds like you have a complex signal, and signal chain. Hit me up sometime! We work on an appointment basis, so just let me know a little bit ahead of whenever you might want to visit to make sure I'm at the store when you plan to be there.Live in Asheville I do find myself in Roanoke area quite often

What amp wattage do you have and what level do you usually run the master at while using it?The thing that really impresses me with my BA410 is the fact that I don't have to crank it to be heard. The array system really helps the mids/highs project while still getting the low end thump from the larger drivers. You could start off with a single 15 and see how it goes....just use your ears and make sure you are not pushing it past it limits. If you are trying to carry a large room with just your amp/cab then a safe bet would be adding a second cabinet...
I use the Genzler Magellan 800. With my new Sadowsky bass I have been running the pre-gain at Noon, have been engaging the pad button and haven’t run the master past 10 o clock. The last couple of gigs I’ve had the master more like around 9 o clock. Everyone’s settings will vary but anything Genzler will be a very capable setup. I also always have adequate PA support so keep that in mind. That said….if I ever decided to crank my rig I could blow your socks off!!What amp wattage do you have and what level do you usually run the master at while using it?

Had a couple of shows this weekend using my new Sadowsky Metro Express. Got it on Thursday afternoon, did a restring and setup and then took it to the gig Friday. All I can say is the Sadowsky/Genzler combo is next level! Our Friday night gig was at a new bar on the rotation for us and they like the volume low so we had to play pretty laid back….but I did capture some video stuff on the iPhone. Gives a little taste of what this pairing sounds like.
