Genzler Amplification Club

Hello my fellow Genzler friends. I am looking for info on the Magellan 800. I need to replace my very much loved DNA 800 (a few issues with it) and it looks like the Magellan 800 might be a good equal fit. Thoughts? Opinions (pro and con)? I play Rock and Jam (Dead and Allman Bros). 2 or 3 guitars, drums, percussion, Hammond B3+keys, and me on bass. Big stages, approx 110dB on stage. Oh, I play G. Gould and Modulus basses both fretted and fretless

Magellan 800 or for some tube vibe the new Kinetix 800. Either would be great. What cabs do you have? Are you going to replace them as well or just the head?

I am currently running a DNA 112 on top of a Bag End S15 which I intend to keep using. I used a hybrid amp for years (SWR BASS 750), but I think I am better off personally not going with any tube anything.

I have similar feelings, although I dug the Kinetix sound, a lot. As for the Magellan, I grew up on the sound of an Ampeg B18, which I borrowed throughout the 70s and later moved to more modern Ampeg and Fendery sounds then Hartke and eventually the Genz Benz combos. I've played solid state a long time and find that my Genzler 350 (which has much the same characteristics of the 800, albeit less power) can hit just about any tone I'm looking for between its two contour settings. If you can, check out the bass array system as it has really tamed some of the brutal acoustics my band has found in some of our local venues.

I have a local bassist friend that has a couple of the Array. They would be great for my cover small band stuff, but not for anything in my original bands. I use 12's and 15's for that. But I am going to hook up my Magellan 350 to my speaker setup tonight and see how it does (yes, way under powered for my gig needs)

I have been pleasantly surprised about how the 350 fills a room with sound along with a loud guitarist and an insane slamming drummer. The 1x10 array does great but add the 2x10 array and WOW.

@iriegnome --- Yes I would not think the MG-350 would be a good option for the bigger cabs you're using and coming from the DNA 1350.
The MG-800 is the ticket. I responded to your email to me this morning with some good information. And I know rack mounting is an important items and provided some information on a universaal rack kit option that works with the MG-800 and other similar amps.

They’re nice, versatile and easy to use amps. Hope it works for you! I am smitten with my Kinetix 800, but do miss the MG800 from time to time…

My BA410 arrived today! Decided to go with it over the 115 to start since it should be able to handle monitoring as well as larger gigs by itself. End goal is still to add a 115 or maybe 210 down the road, but this should suffice in the short term. Huge thanks to @Jeff Genzler for the help and for making such a great product. The BA410 sounds great by itself or with IRs. I’ll have to get it into a rehearsal to see which path makes the most sense with my band for the live sound (IR vs no IR).

My music room/office in shambles rn as I’m in the middle of making an IEM rig for my band as well as rearranging my gear setup/racks, so I’ll post a photo when it’s in a presentable state lol.

Did my first band practice with my 350 in my rig. Not too bad. It Is a bluegrass band, so not much volume is needed and the Magellan 350 did pretty well. When my Magellan 800 shows up next week, it will be great to put that power to use in my original jamband. I think it should be perfect for what I want. A question - are the Contour A/B the same on the 350 and 800? At least the same concept and usage I mean?

The circuit is identical in the MG800.
Hope you enjoy the bigger amp.
