Question about the drive channel on the Magellan 800 (when not using any contour). The manual says about the drive knob, “This control also rolls in a pre-distortion filter that rolls off lows and highs to specifically target a band of frequencies to generate harmonics from”

Is this happening in parallel, I.e. the rolls off is only going to a parallel distortion circuit that is mixed back in with the full range signal? Or, is it happening in series, meaning that lows are being rolled off from the full signal.

Basically does the drive knob high pass filter everything or just the the added harmonics?

@ Wxp475cb ---- Good question and one I don't think we've been asked before. In the Drive Ch of the MG-800, there is no "parallel" clean signal, the drive channel is a circuit as you mentioned that does roll up the ultra lows and top end, and the overdrive circuit does clip the more pleasing mid frequencies, thus the ultra lows are not present in the distortion circuit. And the top end is also attenuated too but since this is also a feedback type of filter, there is some high frequencies added back to enhance the character of the signal --- without the overdrive getting buzzy or harsh. Now this is done Pre EQ so that you can add low or high frequencies back into the signal via the Contour circuit or EQ. With all of our experience through GB and Genzler designs, we've found this type of approach to be the most musical sounding that most players enjoy. Now certainly overdrive and distortion is a very subjective topic but we've found this was the best for the versatility of this feature.

After playing around with my new BA410 a bit, I’ve decided on not using impulse responses through it as part of my live tone. While the high miss/top end sounded really good through the IRs, it was creating some big dips in the lower mids and overemphasizing the low end.

I’ve switched to just using a low pass filter at 5k as my baseline for rolling off high end and adjusting from there as needed. The BA410 sounds exceptional on its own, just using the low pass to tame the highs a bit. I’m using the Mesa 400 model on the axe FX which has a highly interactive tone stack, so I don’t just want to roll the treble down on it as it changes the mid and bass response. Using a low pass at the end essentially gives me a customizable tweeter and really lets the character of the cab shine.

You shouldn’t use an ir with an amp

Only for frfr, pa or recording.

My rig is axe FX 3 into a crown power amp into the BA410. I was playing around with since I was sending the IR signal to FOH so I wanted to see if I could just carbon copy it for my stage sound. Did not work at all as I intended lol. I figured there was a chance it could work since the BA cabs have a much flatter sound compared to most bass cabs.

Yes, this is a straight cabinet only. Built to the same cab dimensions as the BA2-410-3, but lighter. This new model, compared to the 2 single 12" BA2-112-3 cabs offers what I call a "wider dispersion" tonally, with both drivers placed in the same cabinet space and with them being offset somewhat.
For many there is a benefit for a 1 cab solution and there are others who prefer seperates, for flexibility.
We had been asked for a 2x12 for some time now, and here it is.

what method did you use to figure out the dispersion?
ears only? ears and science?
Some of all of this was used, along with past knowledge from previous designs, as well. We've designed several offset and stacked 2x12 cabs over the decades, each having their unique character. There is still a lot of chatter for both the UBER 212 and the NEOX212 from days gone by, along with other GB variations, and now with the MG, NC and BA series, there is a throughline with all of this to some extent.
