Ha. So glad you found this. Yes, John did pick up this cab from our dealer Bananas at Large, and the word back was he just loved it when compared to what he had been using. Good to see this.

So last weekend I was able to use the MG350 w/ MG12TV, and it sounded great. Plenty of volume, which allowed me to open it up more than the MG800.
Initially I thought the sound from the MG350 was different than the MG800 with the same settings, and talked to our regular soundman, and he said that it sounds tighter on the low end, and with better clarity on the upper mids & treble. This are the same observations that I had sitting next to the cab.

Anyone experience a sound difference between the two?

Gain at noon, contour A (no drive channel) about 11 o-clock, EQ all set to noon. The only difference is the master volume.

Granted the MG800 is from 2016, and the MG350 is 2023 (I think). Maybe one is getting tired?

I had both for a while and didn't hear any difference when used at the same volume.

As has been said, the pattern when the speaker is placed normally is wider than it is tall. This is a function of the line array of the small speakers. Turn the speaker the other way and you'll get more dispersion up and down and less side to side. This may indeed be helpful for you but might impact how well the rest of the band can hear you and certainly would impact the audience to the degree they're getting your bass from your amp as opposed to PA.
Most of my gigs, I play a BA12-3STR & two BA10-2's, raised off the floor on a 9 inch stool. With the angled front of the BA10's, this gives me 4 foot, 4 inches to the top of the speaker stack and points the top cab pretty much right at my head, allowing me to hear things very well.

I'm sure it's in the brawny more muscular power supply of the MG800 vs the more supple, lean, athletic power supply of the MG350. Kinda like comparing a Sumo Wrestler to a Middle Weight Boxer. ;):roflmao:

The preamp designs are identical within their specific circuits but there is an obvious difference in power amp modules of course, so it is only natural that there could be some slight "character" differences as you play between the 2 amps--a 350W version and 800W version. We've done everything humanly possible to keep them idential in performance even though the power supplies and amplifier platforms are different. Hope that helps.

Doing a run of FJ fly dates this weekend with backline. Started in Cincinnati and today we are in Lincoln City, IN. Super nice amphitheater and perfect weather for an outdoor show. Let’s Go‼️😎

I've posted a few times about my use of a Genzler Acoustic Array Pro and MG350/BA10 combo as my keyboard rig, but finally got to put the latter combo to the test as a bassist on a big band gig.

A band I usually play trumpet in had a gig Saturday for an area college's graduation about an hour from my place. The lead trumpet player is a good friend of mine, so he and I drove together and got into town a few hours early to grab a sandwich and a beer. While we were hanging, I got a panicked call informing me that the regular bassist had just bailed on the gig at the last minute (long, painful, self-destructive history I won't go into further) and begging me to play bass, as finding another trumpeter was way easier and not as important. I acquiesced, but all my gear was at my place, an hour away, and I didn't have time to drive back and get it before the downbeat.

I called my wonderful wife, and she schlepped my Azola BugBass II, MG350/BA10 combo, and cables up from the basement studio to the driveway for some dear friends in the sax section to pick up on their way in. They made it in time, and the gig went great.

The guys in the band fell over themselves complimenting the sound of the bass, as did the sound guys, who took a DI from the MG350. "Sounded JUST like a real bass, but without the muddiness, hard-to-EQ feedback, and we could hear it clearly everywhere without it sounding loud!" The sound guys high passed it at 100hz.

Thank you, AGAIN, Jeff, for such great gear.

After a very long break from gigging, I found a few folks and regular venue where I can play.

My old Markbass combo had deteriorated to the point where half the knobs were unresponsive, so I picked up a Magellan 350 and a Phil Jones C2 cabinet to replace it.

The head is fantastic. I had not realized how much technology has improved in the last ~18 years. When run with the EQ flat and the character turned down, it sounds exactly like a louder version of my bass.

Finally got out again this past weekend after a couple of weeks of no gigs and then going on a 2 week vacation. Is was good to be back in the saddle and enjoying the SMX through the rig. What a match. We'll be off again this weekend and then things start to pick up between the regular gig and the side band I've gotten into. Ready to go!

Just got this Magellan 800 in a trade, haven't got to gig it yet but really liking it so far. The A/blue contour really seems to make my P bass sing.

What has really blown me away is how great sounding the DI is. Some DI's sound so brittle and harsh but this one is just smooth and sounds great. Is there some kind of cab sim built in?

There’s no cab sim or amp sim, but the amp is known for having a great DI sound.
