I am going from a Shuttle 6 to the Magellan 800. My favorite settings on the shuttle are below:
1. eq in "o'clock" format:
lows: 2
mid boost: 2
mid freq: 8
highs 10 to 12
signal shaping:
LF on
What would comparable settings be on the Magellan 800?

Hey Pachoate---I'm not sure which cabinet you're currently using with the Shuttle but I'll give you some insight for a starting point for your Magellan settings.
I'll assume you currently have the Shuttle 6.0.
In general while the Magellan 800 may feel a little familiar, it is different in its preamp design and overall approach to the eq and tone shaping.
For the Magellan 800 I'd start here:
Start with the CLEAN Channel. Use the Contour A curve (blue LED) set to approx. 10 - 11 o'clock. This will enhance some LF and HF response with a little Mid Dip.
Set your EQ settings the same -- the LF to 12 - 2 o'clock. Mids about the same but you may want to increase the mid Gain setting to 9-10.
Start with the High EQ at noon but you may want to pull back a little as you're doing on the Shuttle.
Again these are different animals and the Magellan 800 uses a completely different power amp module which is going to have a different feel to it.

In my experience, the Magellan is a completely different (and far superior) animal to the Shuttle 6.0, which is what I switched from as well. Mind you, I only played my Shuttle 6.0 through my Bass Array cabs a couple of times before I switched it out, but the Magellan immediately sounded really big and full compared to the Shuttle. The difference was so dramatic, it makes me wonder if something was wrong with my Shuttle, although I had it serviced like a week before I let it go.
The low-end and low-mid response on the Magellan is huge, and I've found myself dialing my low and low-mid down while dialing up my high-mids and high. It still sounds huge, but very articulate and round to me and the drive channel is amazing.
I'm confident you will love the sound of the Magellan, and after you've gotten your sound dialed in you won't want to go back to the Shuttle!

I love the drive channel and the versatility of this amp.
To be honest, I will stay with my beloved GBE 1200 in bigger venues, because of the clarity and punch. It still is a beast!
I love the GBE paired with my Tecamp L 810" or the L 215".
But for any gig that is covered with my SWR 212" (or the Tecamp L 215"....) the Magellan is my new amp to go.

Right on, the Magellan is a beast! Did you record through a mic or DI from the amp? I haven't really tried the DI yet, but very curious.

Excellent news! Glad to see your new Magellan 800 will be in such good company with our other gear.
I, like you, still love the GBE1200 and remain extremely proud of that beast.
Nice to know I've still got the muscles to carry that thing around.
BTW---on your side of the world, Bass Guitar magazine should have a review out pretty soon on the Magellan 800 and Bass Array cabs. The reviewer ended up buying the entire rig and is now using it constantly!
Now that is what I call an endorsement!!!
+1 on the GBE 1200. What a great amp. The only reason I sold mine was that my band mates used to give me dirty looks any time they would unload it from the van. I used to have it racked in a Road Ready case so it was pretty heavy. I went with the Streamliner and they liked me a lot better!

OK it is now official.. So far I really dig this head .. and it is different from the SL but I have to get into it a bit more .... I only played ot for like 15 minutes.. so far I like it..

First I have to tell you that this was a recording session with a real fckn heavy band, so the goal was a fat low end with a lot of punch and overdrive. We tried out a lot of stuff, like the Magellan + Tecamp L 215" clean and my Ampeg V4b RI + sealed 410" (half Ampeg Flatback 810" built by my gear dealer) on full metal facemelt, mic'd and mixed together (delicious!), then changed to GBE + Ampeg in the same setting, what did the trick for the engineer. As I loved the Sound of the Magellan, the extra heft, bottom, the explosve articulation of every note the GBE delivers made it.
I had the time to check out the DI of the Magellan, and it was more than OK for me. There is not a big difference, if there is one, between the DI of the GBE and the Magellan, what I see as a compliment for the Magellans DI.
It was close to use only the Magellan with the drive channel, EQ all flat, slight mid boost at about 1800 Hz, drive gain about 11:00, drive volume about 13:00, contour A at about 13:00. I used a Stingray 5 with a real hot preamp and a Bongo 5. I pushed the bass and mid - pots a bit and had a sound to dream of. My personal favourite was the GBE, both preamps mixed, clean channel with more bass and low mids boosted, and tube channel with lots of gain to bring the tube into saturation, bass and low mids cut, mids and high mids boosted to give even more grit to the sound. This is my sound to go for this band.
The Magellan was able to emulate a sound like this in no time. I love the simplicity, efficency and easy handling of the EQ. You can find a sound for any setting in no time. I have to try out a bit more, like micing the distortion sound I described and mixing it with the DI signal. I think that this setting will do it in most situations with my heavy bands.
I have gigs of realy different styles. There are two heavy bands, one of them real fckn heavy, lets say, Slayer stile. I see myself using the Magellan a lot with the two other bands of mine, a 90's Hard Rock - Cover Band and a Blues- and Soul - Band.
Its great to hear it from "the horses mouth" that you still love the mighty GBE. This amp still outperforms some other "heavy iron amps", and I am happy to have one of this rare animals. In Germany, where I was born and raised, it was not easy to get one. Now I use this amp for about 5 or 6 years, it still works flawless.
As I still have the muscles to carry that beast, too, I kept on using it when I suffered from a herniated disc. It was easy, just told my Band: "No GBE, no bassman!" So they hauled it for me. Easy trick.....
And, to make sure, it was not the GBE that made my disc go SNAFU. It was a barbecue grill.
Sure I will watch out for the review of the Magellan + Bass Array Cabs in the Bass Guitar Magazine.
I tell you, it's a shame that Genzler Gear is not seen / heard that much in Germany. But there are some fans of Streamliners, Shuttles and last, sure not least, the GBE. There will be even more fans of the Magellan, I can tell.
And, to asure you that the Magellan is a really great amp, I have to tell you a secret: There is a friend of mine, a die-hard Glockenklang - Fan, working musician as I, he sold his Blue Sky because he liked the Magellan better.
I made him curious about Genzler (and GenzBenz) - gear as I always praised my GBE and asked him to check the amp against his Glockenklang Solid State - Amps. So he got himself a used GBE 750 - and loved it.
A shame that it was too heavy for his gigs as a freelancer, because he used his Class D BlueSky for this gigs. But he needed an amp for "louder and more heavy settings". So he ordered maybe the first Magellan in Germany, and this started a love affair. He is astonished of the power and punch of the poweramp of the Magellan, and he loves the drive channel. He often told me, that the self ingeneered poweramp of the Glockenklang Blue - Series is one of the best Class - D - modules he has played in his career, he had the chance to review a prototype of the Blue Rock, but he likes the Magellan better.
I know this guy for some time, and I am just astonished about his ear and his ability to make a clear point about any amp he plays. So in my german bassmans community this is a big, big compliment.
I recently dusted off my Azola electric upright and played it through the BA12-3 and a Streamliner 600. Sounded pretty good, huge room-filling sound. When I played that more regularly it went through a SWR Baby Blue. No comparison given the headroom on the Genz amp and the capacity for the BA to absorb the wattage.

Thanks for the great detailed report and your sincere compliments....and those of your good friend. It is always validating to hear that our designs have delivered to the player we designed them for.
