I have a question for all you Genz Benz amp owners: How is the Aux in routed in reference to the DI out? I am asking since I almost always play with two basses and I am debating sending BG through the Genz pre and plug the NS design through a second preamp into the Aux input - would that work? Will both come out of the DI out? What output level would the preamp have to provide to match a properly gained Genz pre?

The Aux In is routed after the eq and before the Master volume.
Anything plugged into the Aux In will not be present in the DI Out.
Sorry your plan won't work.
I would recommend doing this through the front input and use a switcher for your 2 instruments.

Is the Magellan the same way? Just curious since it was brought up.

I have had a little more time with this head.. and I have to say .. I love it.. It is more versatile than the 900 and easier to use than the 9.2 Max.. I like it for both traits.
I like Clean contour A over contour B but there are some very nice sonic dishes to serve up with this head. At some point I may or may not sell off my 900 but this Magellan will be with me for the duration. It is perfect for me in every way.. and it matches up very well with my basses... especially my number one. The fact that I can use 3 8 ohm cabs or an 8 and a 4 is a plus too..

I am not one for dirt but I tried running it dirty with the drive gain up very high... and various levels of contour B from flat to max ... Very interesting.

This is a great head... now I am psyched for a 12 3 cab.. I ran this through my Tri 115 and through the Lil G .. together and separately and it sounded great either way..

Great work Jeff... to all those responsible for this fantastic piece of engineering. :thumbsup:

But.... I was doing a quick research and could not find any of your Products on their Website. Maybe it is too soon and they have not been able to update the catalog until now.

On their face, they look fairly similar, but Jeff tells me that the circuits are quite different. One of his goals for the Magellan's EQ was to minimize the interaction between different bands of EQ, and I do find the EQ on the Magellan to be easier to dial in than I recall based upon my experiences with the various Shuttle heads. The baseline voice of the head feels less "tweaked" than what I recall of the Shuttles, and so the starting point (before you start adjusting the EQ) is different, so this obviously has an effect, as well). For me, I think that the tone control options on the Magellan are an improvement over the Shuttles. Not a huge paradigm shift, but an improvement, nonetheless.

The Contour feature of the Magellan may give you a little more plug and play ability. Between that and the 3-band EQ on my bass, I don't find myself playing with the amp's EQ. Maybe a pinch of bass or a little treble cut depending on the band or the room, but that's about all.

Thank you for the compliments but I would be remiss if I did not give a huge shoot-out to Scott Andres our engineer. As a player and engineer his talents are exceptional.....and he knows how to put up with me:laugh:!! I also find your comments about the Drive Channel interesting. While we don't expect this feature to be the deciding factor in many of those who purchase the Magellan, it does provide that little extra.....hmmmmmmm, interesting moment.

We are all certainly glad the amp is meeting your expectations.

Having switched from a Shuttle 6.0, I can tell you that the controls on the Magellan are quite a bit more useful and intuitive to the ear. The fact that there is a dedicated Drive channel, as opposed to just having a gain knob on the Shuttle is one huge improvement, and it makes it really easy to switch from driven to clean, especially with a foot switch. The contour section is easy to control and very intuitive as well, and I have also found that dialing in an awesome sound was very, very easy.

Count me in, I ordered my Magellan 800 from Bass Direct today and am looking forward to plugging in tomorrow.
Am interested to hear whether anyone here has plugged it into a Berg CN112 stack and what you think of that combo?
I am really hoping for a fatter deeper weightier sound than I currently have with the Puma 900. The choice was go old school with an Ashdown ABM or try something new. Given how great the shuttle and streamliner were I thought this was a good idea.
