How would you all compare the Magellan to the STM-900?

I tried to search this topic, but came up empty.

I had a chance to go thru a two hour practice tonight and while its not a Streamliner 900 it has some of its flavor. I started off with everything set at 12:00 and IMO it sounded great. I did have the drive on and while it doesn't have the big tube sound of the Streamliner the bottom end this amp puts out will fill any room nicely. I was running it thru a TC Composite 212. I used the clean channel for a few songs but I prefer the drive. I ran a small amount of chorus with it and it was real smooth sounding. I'm looking forward to using it on a gig but that won't be for another 10 days. More to come.

Well, I'm a long time Boogie bigot. I did like my Genz Neo 212s but I have a mental block about those tweeters sitting right out in front of the 12; I'm not understanding the Engineering for this design. Prediction ... I'll get comfortable with the concept, sell my Powerhouse 1200, and get the light weight Magellans. One step at a time. Also, though ... I like headroom in a cab/head configuration. Isn't the 800 more than the two Magellan cabs can handle if the head is cranked?

I use my two Array cabs with a GK MBF800 and I don't worry too much about it. It gets stupid loud without any farting.
I was worried about the 3" array, but they seem to do what they are supposed to do without the harshness of a tweeter cab.
I like them a lot.

I have my own theory about the speakers out front, but that is yet to be confirmed. What I can tell to is that 90 degrees to either side sounds the same as directly in front. And the air it pushes will make you sick.

There've been similar designs before. The original Trace Elliott had an amazing little combo with the speaker, I think it was 10", recessed into the cab with a solid baffle covering the front an just a 1" slit down the middle yet it pumped HUGE volume, low mids, and decent lows. I think there was a tweeter on the front baffle. I know I've seen such a thing someplace.

I have one of those! It was available with our without the front tweeter. Mine does not have the tweeter, but it has surprising high end. And you are right, this thing sounds far larger and louder than you would expect!
