Genzler Amplification ! New Genz Benz ?

I'm in the minority here with the MG cabs, but I did exactly what you're considering, got the 212 first and used it with my Ampeg for a few months, then got the MG800 and the 112. I don't have experience with the Bergies unfortunately. I can report that the MG cabs are great. The tweeter is extremely sweet, the highs come through very clearly but they're never harsh. I've used both cabs together on a recent show with both tweeters set at 50% with my SR5 Classic. It was very smooth and warm for most of the show, but always very articulate, never muddy, and it could still cut your head off the few times I had a slap part.

They're also very efficient so I didn't have my amp turned up very loud (gain at 9:00, master at 12:00), but I had a fat tone that covered the stage very well without overwhelming it. This was a corporate show in a large room, so I wasn't sure about even bringing both cabs, even though it's still an energetic, dance-oriented show. I will always do so now that I know how easy it is to control the volume and how great it sounds with those 3 12s pumping behind me.

The BAs seem great and worthy of all the praise they get, but the MGs were a more cost effective option for me and they seem to be vastly underrated. I've played and owned some really good cabs, and some not so good, but I've never been happier with my live rig than I am with the full Magellan stack. You can't go wrong, regardless of which decision you make.

One drop ----- I understand your position. We do have a couple of Canadian dealers and I think it might be worth giving them a call to see how they might be able to assist.

I think the Magellan is a good amp -- in many respects, the most practical amp I've picked up in awhile; features, price, size, design (brilliant lighting scheme, btw -- unobtrusive but easily decipherable in the dark), and build quality are all on point and the sound works well in a variety of contexts -- but I've not 100% connected with it. I'm also getting rid of my Walkabout, Monique, original Demeter 201, and Zephyr pre -- all acknowledged tone and live performance standouts -- so this is not necessarily a knock on the amp.

More than that, I just feel a need to get rid of some stuff. I've been staring at this post for awhile, and that's the best answer I can give here right now.

I want to emphasize that I've always found Jeff good to deal with. I think he's on to some good stuff and will have a lot of success with his company.

Last night I recreated the tone of my old SWR SM400S with the MG-800, my Lakland DJ5 and a GK Neo212. I had all of the controls at noon but cut the mids to about 10 o'clock. BAM, the exact sound that I used to get with my SWR stack but with more depth and presence.

Then I switched to the dirty channel, put the mids just a bit past noon, cut the highs a bit and with my P bass, Duck Dunn a la Blues Brothers.

Love this amp!

What setting on the channel and were you using the contour? if so what one and what level?? thanks...

Clean channel, contour A, mid freq at noon, mid level between 9-10 o'clock for SWR sound

Dirty Channel, Contour A, mid freq at noon, Mid level between 1-2 o'clock treble down just a bit to 11 for Duck

In both cases adjust mid freq to taste as the cab and bass have a big effect on the outcome.

With my basses and my cabs I can get just about what i like by leaving almost most controls at noon and just use contourA ,,, It is so easy to get a usable sound with this amp. Maybe easiest of all amps that i have ever owned. I know i sound like a broken record, but it is true. Its the old cliche PLUG n PLAY.. i don't know if Genzler was Lucky or if they figured it out on paper before they built this amp. But they did a great job on the final product

I tried that for the HiFi SWR sound but for me, cutting the mids with the contour at noon was a better result. For me, contour A at noon and adjusting the mid level is ticket. However, there many different ways and tones that can be had.

this was recorded on my iPhone with Mag-800 and single BA12-3 (for a Scotts Bass Lessons challenge)
The grind tone comes more from the amp than the bass, the dirty channel is in use, naturally, the bass and round wound strings help a bit too with the grindy tone.
I like how it sounds, not sure its everyone's cup of tea.
