George Lucas Does Something Cool For A Change

So you are saying that the construction of George Lucas' movie studio is a good thing?
My apologies, I thought you were saying the construction of low income housing would be a good thing.

I am saying low income housing is good, if it happens would be a good idea. I never commented on if it does or does not happen. If low income housing does happen, then its good for Marine. If not, it's not.

Which one will happen in the future is a speculation unless i missed something.

I used to work for Lucasfilm. Nothing glamarous just maintaining their phones. He had two propeties in Lucas Valley, Big Rock and Skywalker Ranch. Both are beautiful places with lots of trees, some streams and small lakes, it was not unusual to look out my office window and see a deer, or a wild turkey. He had his own onsite winery, garden and fire department. The food served at Big Rock was great, I think some of it was from the garden. He also had small inn onsite that visiting celebreties would stay in.
ILM was in downtown San Rafael before it moved to San Francisco. It was also fun place to work. On my first day I asked "Where is the phone closet in this building." My co-worker said "It's over there behind the Men in Black Spaceship." One day I walked into a warehouse and there was a huge version of the Black Pearl from Pirates of the Carribean. These types of things were the norm there. The small coffee bar was called "Java the Hut."

I personally don't give a rat's arse that two sets of rich people are being spiteful to each other. But I think it's delicious irony that the weapon that one side used (this land is only good for housing...not movie studios) is coming back to haunt them: hoisted by their own petard!

Also, the residents of *Lucas* Valley certainly embraced the association with George Lucas when it benefited them by increasing their property values. So fuggem.

He doesn't get what he wants, so he uses the impoverished as a weapon to blackmail his neighbors into getting what he wants? I don't understand what's admirable about that.

The point of Lucas saying he is going to transform his property into low income housing is not so that he can actually do so, but rather so that the rich people in his area, who have been opposing the idea of his movie studio construction, will be more in favor of the studio being built than the low income housing.

Basically he is saying "So you oppose my movie studio? Then how about I bring poor people into your rich neighborhood?"
Because his neighbors would most likely prefer his original idea to have the studio built.

He's not actually doing any good for anyone, but rather has found a clever way to manipulate his neighbors to get what he wants.

Awesome use of the poor as a weapon. :scowl:

I think you guys are giving Georgie too much of a hard time. I think he probably does care for poor people...but he now has a delish way of demonstrating it.

And it's not "poor" people per se. Low income housing is for people who make less than 50(?)% of the city's median. You're still talking about rich people. Just not with Porsche's and Mercedes. Think BMW's parked under a carport in a nice condo complex with $3000/month rent.

George Lucas does something cool...

FOR A CHANGE????

So coming up with the original Star Wars, being part of the Indiana Jones franchise; all that wasn't cool enough for you?

That was very cool, and a HUGE part of my childhood.... however the digital redo poo-poo I could do without. Greedo shooting first is near blasphemy, it doesn't play well and should be left alone. Episodes I, II, and III were ok at best and completely ruin the best reveal in movie history... and I could go on.

It's been a long time since ol' George has done anything really noteworthy. :D

I can not believe how many people think that putting low income housing in nice towns and neighborhoods is a good thing.
Do any of you own a nice hose that you worked hard to get?

My neighborhood, town and schools have been devastated by low income housing.
First the county comes in and takes the land by imminent domain. They put up the housing and fill it with people that do not have the same values of the residents. All of a sudden we have gang bangers, the schools turns into war zones and everyone's property values drop while our taxes shoot up.

And before you accuse me of living in a all white raciest town, we were very diverse before this. The Vietnamese family next door or the black family two houses over will say the same thing. We worked hard to buy our houses.

You will be hard pressed to find anyone that owns a home in any town that this has had low income housing put in that will tell you that it improved their town or way of life.
