George Lucas Does Something Cool For A Change

That's freakin boss. It's too bad about the studio though, that could have meant more jobs for locals who sincerely need work to make ends meet for their families. Either way, well done Mr. Lucas.

I'm not sure how much George Lucas cares about jobs in Marin. He moved ILM, Lucas Arts and a good part of the admin department to San Francisco. He also moved a lot of production offshore to Indonesia.

I think it was a douche move-also he did kick star wars in the balls with episode I , the other 2 were good but man episode I BLOWS.The new indian jones was also horrible.
When I worked at Lucasfilm everyone would sign a poster for employees who were leaving. Shortly after Episode one came out they left out a poster with Yoda on it that said "Size matters not. Unless it is in Imax." Some wise guy at Lucasfilm wrote on the poster "And apparently neither does a plot."

I'm going to wait and see how this plays out before judging Lucas' intentions. This could be grounds for ejection from OT, I know.;)

It's lucas valley people. He was there first and those people knew who they were moving next to. And who cares what he dose with his land, it's his land. What freedom is that if others around him get to bully him into not doing what he wants with his property. Good for him. I hope he builds low income housing, the rich move away, he buys thier old land, builds his studio then hires the low income and gives them jobs.

Thats pretty much correct-being a huge star wars fan and being there day 1 it was released i was super bummed and didnt even watch the other 2 tell they came out on video.

I thought he already moved his base to SF? Did I miss something? Also, if you've been down there (I got a tour of Lucas Arts, the video game arm for a HS Senior project) and it's a gate that leads up to a private office/studio. It is the kind of place you would miss driving by it if you didn't know better. I don't get what all the fuss is about. This is all just silly posturing. I always thought Lucas was a class act, regardless of what he does to his movies. I'm not sure this changes anything to me.

While George Lucas may have been there before some residents he was not there before all of them. It is just a coincidence that the are is called Lucas Valley. Lucas Valley was named after John Lucas, a 19th-century rancher and nephew of Timothy Murphy (not related to George Lucas).

What a jerk. He would build low income housing anywhere if he really cared about "those" people. Instead he is threatening other rich people with what they fear most- black people moving into their neighborhood. How stupid and incredibly insulting to "low income" people this is. If the people in his neighborhood balk at his bluff i'd be really surprised to see it happen.

From the article...

"In a telling fact, a family of four with an annual income of $88,800 can qualify for housing assistance in Marin, which has about 6,500 income-restricted housing units, according to the county."

So basically they don't want hard working families who aren't filthy rich living near them.

Yep, that was my point. That place is super expensive and if they don't keep those hard working families in the county then there will be no one left to provide any services to those rich retired people. Rich retired people will move somewhere else and all Marin is going to be stuck with is ghetto.
