Long story short....

Yesterday I picked up a bass for the first time since April. Part of the health issues I’ve been dealing with come from long term side effects of my arthritis meds.

Most of that is straightened away and I am now taking different meds.

The results? I have a long way to go to get back to how I was playing in April. Hopefully, it won’t take too long.

Exercise is supposed to be good therapy for arthritis. Hope that the recovery goes well.

Not ready to believe I can trust a machine to make risotto.
IIRC, we've never made risotto in it. So far! :D Comes in handy for lots of other things. When we did our four month long kitchen reno in the summer of '13 we bought it to be used along with the aforementioned toaster oven that got replaced with the B & D last year, our microwave oven, and the refrigerator that got moved into the dining room (our new, temporary kitchen for the summer).

The contractor said we'd be going out to eat all the time and/or using paper plates cups and plastic "silverware". We rarely ate out! We go out to eat LOTS more, nowadays. The only real downside during the renovation was having to wash the dishes in the bathtub (upstairs) and the laundry utility sink (downstairs); no paper and plastic for us! We even had the stove in the dining room during the renovation but not connected to a gas line (however it still worked a treat as a storage device and countertop).

The chimney is one great invention

I've become pretty sensitive to what I can eat when I'm "out". For some reason I seldom see parsnips or turnips on menus? Turnips are seen as animal fodder in a lot of places. They're good with mashed potatoes.

In what feels like a lifetime ago we learned rock climbing "the proper way". Clean climbs,... no pitons, pack out what we pack in. And none of these fancy modern mechanical climbing "aids". It doesn't have to suffer a failure to leave you hanging. When all those fancy inventions fall to the bottom, it does well to know how to manage with only the basics ... which is only interesting in the telling in that I don't trust fancy inventions in the kitchen, either. The logic is identical, except none dies if I burn the crème brûlée.

Washing the dishes while taking a bath...good way to multitask. If you get into trouble for doing that, dogs do a good job at doing the dishes.

Which is what these Tiny House deals are all about. Really great if living in a sloop feels too spacious.

Actually, we took one down during the kitchen reno! The original stove, and an incinerator in the basement were connected to it, both long gone before we got the house.

How are you with taro root?

the crème brûlée.
Make sure there's enough to go around (unburned, thanks) when the whole lot of us show up for dessert! :smug:

I’m pulling for ya!

...and speaking of arthritis...the knuckle at the base of my right big toe Flames up every one in a while... 3? times this year...

It doesn’t sound like a big deal, but when it gets to Full On, I am Freakin’ Incapacitated!!

Has anyone heard anything about ‘bee sting therapy’?

(It’s just what it sounds like!) :roflmao:

PS,
I Love turnips, parsnips, beets, rutabagas...ALL root vegetables are welcome at our home!
Pop ‘em in the oven for 20 minutes and Celebrate Good Times, Ah Ha!!

Some people rave over bee sting therapy. Others have died from it. A family member had arthritis that developed in her teens. She got pregnant and it went away for life. A gift from her twins.

After baking, mush them and make stock in the pan for soup. It's the fastest way to make a soup stock, way better than simmering bones for hours. Although a beef bone with marrow is a real treat for a dog.

I do what you described with all you listed except for parsnips, add carrots, celery, and large onions. All good for you. Beets are especially good for blood circulation.

Side effects suck!

One med I was taking, Losartan, caused a decrease in executive function. Insidious. I could think about things, figure out things but had a hard time planning and finishing things. Man, talk about a nightmare. This went on for some time and I had to figure it out on my own. Doc was no help. Soon as I stopped it, it was like being reborn.

I was taking it too-'til it got recalled. Now I'm on something(else)similar.

And seeing a doctor in a few weeks for arthritis in my feets. Already went through that mill in the same office and a different doctor for my left shoulder. The same shoulder that supports my bass. Which lead to lots of interesting new straps in the belief the right strap would ease my shoulder pain as I play. Learned a lot about straps, what works and what doesn't work for me. TL;DR strap: wide, soft. A few weeks of physical therapy! It works. When I paid a social visit to my PTs this week, I wondered if I suffer from Stockholm Syndrome.

So it looks like I go back to physical therapy .... lulz

What's all in good news in doctorland is yet a further reduction in some medication but still mildly anemic. Less than four years remains until my next colonoscopy :rollno: I'm on the five year plan instead of the ten year plan

That you didn't hear it here first - cooked carrots are :vomit: :vomit: vile :vomit: :vomit: for me. Even the thought of carrot juice :vomit: :rollno: :rollno: What I do enjoy from the carrot world are those pencil-skinny pickled carrots at the sushi bar. I mean a real sushi bar, not this gas station unimart sushi stuff. It's been a long time since I've been in a proper sushi bar, the kind where you give the chef carte blanche. Anyway, when you all come over for dinner you are guaranteed a carrot-free meal.
