I found some video of the classic rock/pop band I was in years ago.
Crummy audio on most of it, sadly, so is the band, too.
It is so much fun to find old stuff out there. Nice job with that band!

April '98 (the sticker inside the control cavity says 04/15/1998) Rick 4001V63 with scatterwound toaster and rebuilt early 1960s magnetic horseshoe pickup, using both pickups, into my old Universal Audio LA-610 Mk II to the Digidesign Control|24 console to some sort of Mac computer. Who says Ricks can't do Big Bottomed Girls tone?

The only thing I ever said about a Ric to a Ric owner - and strictly about his Ric is "baseball bat neck". It was a 4001.
That's why P's and Ric's never worked out for me. I have shorter stubby fingers and the Ibanez basses were perfect for me-- to this day. There are only two wider neck basses I'm working with-- fixer-uppers that I own-- an Ibanez P-bass clone and an Ibanez Music Man clone. Both are lighter and streamlined and have a wider neck. Their string nut width is 41mm which is acceptable for me, because the necks are shallow.
One neck (MM copy) needs to go to warpedneck.com and the other needs a new P pickup. I'm undecided about what brand at this time but it might be a higher output Fender P.
The neck on my 4003 is quite narrow, more like a JBass. My ‘57 PBass neck is huge, nothing at all like the Rickenbacker.
The reason I'm hoping the Ibanez MM copy works out is because I've found as of lately in the cold Alaska climate the 38mm Ibanez necks are tempermental. They need attention regularly. I don't know if some of you GOF's remember several years ago I owned a beautiful British J-bass clone. It had a ski slope by the 12th fret but for the rest of the bass it was rock solid. Revelation bass by a pickup designer named Entwistle.
Well, the MM 41mm neck will be more stable than the 38's. But for performance the SR500L and SR300EL are outstanding active electronics performers. I just wish their necks didn't need so much attention.

Apparently in the time since my friend let me try his Ric (very long time), I'm a bit easier about necks. If they are adjusted properly, that is. Any alleged "fatness" isn't as big a deal to me now. Pretty certain, though, I'm not up for a V neck. Pretty certain the neck on my older sister's Kay upright was one of those V neck deals. I couldn't play her double basses, she couldn't play my electric bass, and it doesn't matter as she hasn't spoken a word to me in years.

I owned the Ibanez Mikro and thought that would be a solution but alas I hated the sound of the E string. Mikro players on the Mikro thread said it was an inherent design of 27" string length... I'd like to try a 32" neck with a 41mm string nut width, body of basswood. Will, have you ever tried a Hofner 500/1? Bass is light, neck is thin, and they come in lefty version.

Hey @12BitSlab .. I did and although it was a dream to play, it lacked the longer decay and growliness a roundwound solidbody provides. Although the next time I'm in Seattle I should give one a try. Do they still supply roundwounds for all the Hofners?
Mine is a V64 made in 2012. It came strung with flats.
Sorry, I meant do they still string them all with flatwounds.... The few that I've tried had flatwounds on them.
