On the other hand, a lot of people in China can't go outside without a mask on because pollution is so bad. I think there's a middle ground to be found somewhere. California in the 60's and 70's was a smog nightmare. That didn't clean up on its own. We don't want to go back there.

I don’t know if it’s just more media coverage but forest fires, and related smoke, seems to be worse along the west coast of North America every summer.

They are worse. I've only been here for about 13 years but I've noticed a huge increase over that time, and those who have lived here since birth also see it. There are many thoughts about why that is, and the reasons people are willing to accept and promote are often politically tinged, so I'm not going to get into that.

A followup on notation software that I was asking about a while back. I wanted it to keep document tab records when writing. It turns out that it works for any instrument including drums and is useful for practicing, it plays the songs.

I went with Guitar Pro - Sheet music editor software for guitar, bass, keyboards, drums and more..., got their 20% off sale, around $55. The company turns out to be good, have been around for years, and they passed my support torture test. :laugh:

I visited a shop that had a huge slab of a rare wood. Something that you simply can’t get anymore. Those sized trees are not available at any price. The luthier figured that he had a lifetime supply in that slab. So these woods are available from existing stock. As I recall, prices started at $5K and skyrocketed up. He wasn’t short of orders. Many from well known players who fly in just to pick up their instrument.

One was Keith Richards. I keep hearing stories from builders about him. One described delivering an instrument to his home in CT. Keith greeted him at the door wearing a bath robe. He was so excited to get the new guitar. He must have quite a collection.

He’s also an avid reader and has a huge collection of rare books. With the isolation that fame brings, folks can live in books.

My 1967 Thunderbird is made out of Honduran mahogany. IDK if it's the age of the tonewood or some other factor, but I love its sound-and the sound of(what was)my 66 EB-3 that I stupidly sold.:banghead:

Kick yourself for selling it. I had a Honduran rosewood 12-string that I stupidly traded for a fuzz pedal. I have no idea what happened to the pedal but I’ll never forget that instrument.

I sold the EB-3 'cos it wasn't being played. Less than a month later, I developed a need for a short scale, which it was. Aaaarrrggh.( I wound up buying a Squier VM Jaguar SS. It's OK, but it ain't no 66 EB-3)

Me and Julio, at least 500 feet from a schoolyard

To me the best part of the incoming holiday season are the steep discounts on Halloween stuff and Halloween things. Scored a placemat in black with "silver" threaded spiderweb patterns for a dollar. A couple minutes later with a pair of scissors and a non-skid kitchen mat, and there I have a dust barrier and Elf-loft for my Cab 27.

Sure seems like a lot of dust on this planet. Volcanic dust does the same thing to cities, but a lot faster. And really a bit worried about anyone who looks around and says, yeah, good time and place to extinguish a city. I'm personally very fond of cities, it's kind of impressive to be in a big one. Can't rightly tell where it starts and ends, like in Los Angeles. What I did see coming in from Vegas is an immense "dome" of smog. Here we goooo

Heard someone joke there's only a stairway to heaven while there's a highway to hell because a lot more people .... No personal experience (or personal interest) either way, but I will say the heat in a rental car in Minnesota in January is insufficient.
