Some notation software will allow you to print notes or tabs or both as well as chords.
Since a note or chord can sound different depending on where it’s played on the neck, as long as the notation format indicates where on the neck each note should be played and how it should be attacked, up stroke or down, hammer on or pulled off it’s good. Then there’s alternate tunings. Maybe tab is better for guitar.
