In ~81, when I was playing with a group in a Miami Beach Hotel, a guy who worked there asked if a friend of his could come sing with us. We were a little reluctant 'til she sang her first couple of words. No mistaking that voice-it was Shirley. She sang two songs: Johnny B. Goode and Will you Still Love Me(both of which we were able to fake). Sure wish we'd been recording that night.:banghead:

Today is national bird day. I'm going out to visit the birds.

It's also national whipped cream day. I'll have to listen to Herb Alpert tonight.

My estimation of violating the moral clause of carnies sounds like "someone's daughter".

Big fan of Flora Purim. Once nearly bought a berimbau because of her husband. "Nearly bought" meaning the day I find one in a shop is also a day I am just a little short of coin. Going to say that's my version of the story.

We saw her and her husband a few years back. She has no voice left. Very sad. Her daughter was with them and did almost all of the singing.
