Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

I was getting up from the "throne" this morning and my right knee made a loud pop and felt like I was hit in the knee with a ball peen hammer. My wife heard me yelping and helped me back into bed. This is the knee that has had two arthroscopic surgeries. I wish it was from my lucrative pro basketball career (not) or decades of fervent prayer in a monastery but it is actually from two decades as an electrician kneeling on the concrete and steel deck plate of a power plant. The bad news is that where I live now an MRI means "Mom's Rice Incorporated". The nearest real medical treatment facility is an overnight ferry ride away. And the ferry is definitely not wheelchair accessible.

Before anybody starts with the sympathy tears, the fact is I choose to live here and was fully aware of the limitations of health care here.
I guess the only reason I whining now is that I am indeed a GOF and my knee effing HURTS!

Thanks. I'm icing it and taking ibuprofen. If worse comes to worse I can fly to Manila where there is modern medical care. I'm just a cheep ol' bustard but I might have to open my wallet for this one. Once again, it's my choice to live here and that means Medicare doesn't pay outside of the USA. I have PhilHealth, their national medical insurance, but that 's only good for about 30%. Luckily the fees are less here. On the positive side, I don't have to shovel any snow any time soon.
What really ticks me off is I have a couple of fun music projects I'm in the middle of and now that's sidetracked until I can figure out whats next with the knee.

Wrap it to minimize swelling and movement too, but not too tight. Monitor it closely, you will know how it's progressing.

Just another rodeo injury!

I'm coming to realize that a big part of aging is coming to terms with an ever increasing number of health issues. When I was younger I never understood why older people seemed to always talk about their health problems when they got together. Now I get it.

I guess the only reason I whining now is that I am indeed a GOF and my knee effing HURTS!

That's not whining, that's acknowledging reality. I hope your knee gets better on it's own real soon.

My wife has been getting an injection in her left eyeball every seven weeks for the past year and will continue to do so unless they stop working. If that happens, she's screwed. Today was an injection day. I don't know how she handles it. She's certainly tougher than I am.

I appreciate the sympathy and support. Here in the Philippines people tend to be stoic about pain, so my whining and sobs don't go to far. And I don't have to worry about getting addicted to pain meds as the opiates are not readily or easily available here. Hence the only resort is to "suck it up". I really hesitate to get any surgery as my experience with the two I have already had left me with chronic discomfort level of pain. Paul, when I was in the USA I tried the Durolane (actually Synvisc - same stuff) to no avail. So far the ice is helping a fair amount.

Like I tell my wife "Honey the pieces are falling off faster than I can glue them back on!"

Living here has opened my eyes and changed my perspective on life in so many ways. Whenever I start to feel sorry for my medical problems, I think about this guy that lives not to far from here. He is a young guy in his thirties, I call him Hopalong. I see him quite often in his neighborhood, always a smile on his face. One of his legs is badly distorted and only half as long as his good leg, a birth defect I guess. He doesn't have a crutch, just a 6 foot long bamboo pole. He hops all over the place going about his life looking pretty happy like a lot of folks here despite what westerners would call poverty.
All my life I have two legs, and lived pretty good. I need to smile more....

Well, hello fellow grumps #95 here. Not to brag (who me?), but I tore apart a Peavey Combo 300 I bought for $25.00, slightly damaged. I fixed the head and built a proper huge cab for the 1502-4 BW.
REMEMBER EVERYBODY THIS IS AN AMP THREAD
(we don't want to get shut down now do we boys?)

Now: to real news: Marmaduke has developed into a sorta King of the Crawfish Fields (Mardi Gras is here now until next Tuesday). I think I have established my hatred of Mardi Gras in an earlier post. 16 year old kids vomiting on the streets and other assorted party amateurs… disgusting…
But back to my dog: The Big Boy has recruited a beagle to bark up prey. There are also a couple of terriers who call him into action from my less Irksome western neighbor; I don't mind them (the terriers, I mean) on my property. The humans are idiots, just not as bad as the easterly ones who put up the city street light. Duke, he's getting close to 4 years old, so he needs the exercise because he is spoilt with scraps and dog biscuits everyday.
that is all,
fnord!
