In FL a "ranch" is an actual ranch-many acres, livestock, ranch hands,etc. The "ranch house"will have an open porch, around 3(or all)sides if possible.GP, I googled "Florida-style ranch" and a pic of your actual house came up as the third pic, so I am going to say RANCH....
That tree(Royal Palm)is very expensive. Show it off.
That's not my understanding of a ranch-style home, either. Interesting we have so many different thoughts about it. Around here a ranch style home is just a one-story house with no basement and no second floor. Most homes here are considered ranch style, but of course here in California there are also many actual ranches, which are farms.
The ranch-style here is the kind of home you would expect to find on a farm out here, but the farm itself is not necessary to call the home a ranch-style home.

We don't have 'em here, either. A few older homes do, but very few!

Yeah, many terms are regional. If you ask a realtor to show you a ranch, yer gonna see a Ranch. What I live in is called a single story detached house.

In colder climates, there are basements. It helps insulate the main floor to have that space. Water pipes come into the basement, the pipes have to run below the frost line so the water doesn’t freeze. Same for the sewage, you don’t want that freezing. The big furnace or boiler normally resides in the basement. With electric heating it doesn’t matter.
Older homes had stone basements, then there was poured cement, now it can be bricks. Some basements are finished as nice as the rest of the house. Other basements are finished on the cheap, what they call recreation rooms.
Pools are partially drained in the winter, 2 or 3 feet. Ice expands when it freezes. Pools are covered but are a mess in the spring.

Thank you, SP! I am doing much, much better. These incidents are intense, and what follows can either be increasingly intense and dangerous, or brief and over with quickly. I am very thankful this one went the latter route because, in the moment, I was quite fearful of it going the other way. I don't think I've experienced one quite this bad, and I'm not eager to have that experience in the future. Just grateful that it wasn't worse.

Yeah...here's a shot of one of the places I used to work during my summer vacations between 1989 and 1997.
Yep, that's my house. It's still not a ranch-in FL terminology.
