Keep playing music (good for your brain) keep interacting with people (likewise) and keep exercising (y'know, like walk for at least 30 minutes a day, not marathons, unless marathons are your thing.)

My 84 year old MIL tossed them all out the window to sit reclusively in front of the TV, refuse to make new friends when her old ones died, refuse her doctors orders and our encouragement to get out and walk, or use an exercise bike to maintain some physical condition (ie, retain the ability to walk) - and more or less as a direct result is now staring down the barrel of a long time in a nursing home, since she hasn't really got anything that's likely to kill her, unless not wanting to be alive will do it, and it hasn't so far.

Also, that truck should be handy for stylishly hauling amps and cabs, in one of those mythical places where they don't salt the roads in the winter (any really old vehicles around here imply winter storage and application of lots of cash.) My last I-6 (Ford) was running great when junked - motor death is hardly known in the modern era, non-economically-viable cancerous decay is what kills vehicles here...I've been on a shrinking trend, truck-wise, from a crew-cab 4wd 1-ton with a V8 that could manage 11 MPG on the highway with a tailwind (motor also fine when junked) to half-ton Ford 4WD to a Toyota Tacoma 4WD with a 4-banger - but I finally faced my greatest vehicular demon and learned to back a trailer, so the Taco has the largest "bed" of them all (in the form of a 6.5 x 14 trailer.)

My wife and I spent 43 years taking care and being responsible for our younger son. In 1988 he broke his neck in a car crash which rendered him a quadriplegic. I won’t bore you with the trials we endured making him an accessible home but it partly was the search though 75 homes to find a suitable one. We built him his own suite with a fully accessible bathroom and a large space the size of a double garage for his living area. An elevator took him to four levels of our home.

A couple years back he bought himself a Condo and moved out. Before he did, he drained the joint account we had set up to handle common finances. We have not heard from him since.

If only my lady had had me spayed before having our sons life would have been so much better!! :rollno:

Sorry guys, I guess I’m feeling a bit sad about my forthcoming surgery. it all seems so unfair not that life is ever fair!

The only thing that is fair in life is that you actually get to make a choice.. it may not be right one, but it is fair enough that you did get a choice..

Sorry to hear about your troubles Sir Paul. Sounds horrid. I think it's good for you to share your sorrows with your friends here. You are an amazingly kind person, especially so if you consider those trials and tribulations you have been through. In my book, that means you pass the test, and one day, hopefully a long time from now, you will play a golden bass in God's band.

I know major surgery is very unnerving. The cancerous prostate gland they popped out of me with a robot was wrapped around the inner parts of my ding-a-ling-a-ling. And I have high hope of one day using my ding-a-ling-a-ling again someday, so that was quite unnerving. It took a couple of months for all the things a ding-a-ling-a-ling can NORMALLY be used for to work again, now as good as new. From several people I've know to undergo heart surgery, I expect you will come out fine and you will feel one hell of a lot better afterwards. I think I can say on behalf of many here that you will have prayers coming from all over the world!

Thanks folks, I feel your support and it does indeed help! Mulling over the last twenty plus years I wonder if I’d do it again. I know I would. Children are a responsibility that never goes away. I fathered two sons who had all the talent and intelligence garnered from both of us. School and music were something natural to them. They had the world at their feet but were too damn lazy to bend down and pick up the riches.

Both are now lost to us. Neither have any interest in being part of our family. I guess that’s why I love my wife’s siblings and their families. They love us both unreservedly and without question. That’s what drives us forward to when we can be in Liverpool once more. <sigh> OK I’ll stop whining now! LOL

God Bless!

As much as I want to play in a band.. I don't want to play in a band.. I enjoy playing in a band because of the unity of it and the goal of playing good music, way more than satisfying my own ego, ( we all have a bit of that, it is what makes want to play), but dealing with head strong egos that don't know how to keep it in check.. am I wrong that this attitude is more so in geetar players than with us bassist? I could be messed up in my thinking, it happens more often now.. this is a good band I think, but we have a prima donna geetar player that wants to argue about how a song goes.. I am not sure if he is really doing his home work.. some of these songs you can tell he has learned some time ago.. and he has never revisited them since picking me and the other geetar play up.. The other geetar player I happen to know.. he came with me from the last project we were working.. Maybe I am just getting too old to wanna put up with the BS anymore!

It depends how serious your band is. Are you making a living off of it? Are you recording? Are you playing for fun? Is there something about the guy you don't like? Sometimes you can't explain it, it's just the chemistry is wrong. Have a sit down with him and share your feelings. Better than blowing up later. And if it's hobby time, don't let the small stuff get to you. Have fun! :)

Bassmanpaul and badexample my prayers are with you both. Paul, we have four kids, all adults. We don't get a Mothers or Fathers Day card, Christmas or birthday card. I'm Alaska Native and I get small dividends from my Native corporation a couple times of year. They seem to have developed a sense of when those checks come in and all of a sudden they have a major catastrophe. Of course Mom can never say no. Do we ever see the money again? No. Have they come to Alaska to visit? No, they're saving their money for IMPORTANT THINGS. There is a good reason that some wild animals eat their offspring. Sheesh. Now I'm grumpy.

On a different note, wife and I just saw Big Fat Greek Wedding II and it was excellent. Reminded me why I snagged that cute girl I now claim as my wife for 29 years... Or did she choose me? LOL either way I'm the winner. I wish real families where more like Hollywood families..... Hey at least our dog never talks back, is always happy to see us, and never talks back to us! :hyper:

I didn't really want to bring it up.. to me stating this is like stirring a pot for others.. but I am a lot in the same boat as Paul.. I have two daughters.. one whom lives in the same town as I.. never calls.. never get any thing from her.. I have four grandkids from her from three different fathers.. she has never married.. the other is smart, but careless.. married.. lives on the left coast and I have three grandkids from her.. she is married to a moron whom only thinks about himself and not what is good for the family.. will not try to improve himself with more job education.. (he is a mec) hates school he says.. but how can you better yourself in that line of work.. mmmm..

Sorry chum he can't do what she won't let him. More to the point, for some reason she's enabling him. Two of my daughters went through that with loser boyfriends/husbands. For some reason they get stuck because of kids or whatever and they rationalized in their own mind it was ok, as long as there's a body to sleep with.
Young people don't realize how fast time flies by. Wish I had a dollar for every regret and hindsight I've learned since I've been on this earth.. I wouldn't need the lottery! LOL

Yes.. your right.. I have pointed out to her that she needs to "wake" him up!

Sometimes this feels like my life...

"Time"

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say.......

Our band, though they have not mentioned it.. I have suggested doing this song coming out of The Dance.. off the E on the outro into this song at the verse on the F sharp... I have seen it done before and it is awesome when put together like that!

That sounds like an easy transition from The Dance to Time. By the time you're done everyone in the bar will be crying in their pitchers of beer, thinking about going home! :dead:
