I feel like that from now on.. the band that I am working with, that I will only bring one bass... be it the 5'r or a four banger.. maybe even the one that is BEAD.. and play only that bass at practice.. since we have a geetar player that like to changes things up without mentioning what he is trying to do.. thought that I would make it more interesting for him to figure out what it is I am doing!

My efforts to not die like a certain inventive mother (or rather the side effects therof) have caused me to become innately familiar with certain products I previously did not expect to need for another 3 decades or so. If you have a #1 problem, "guards" are far preferable to the other version you are low on, IMPE. If your problem extends beyond #1, you have my sympathy. And I'm way too young for this club (or the one I'm unwillingly in, but then, so was the inventive mother.)

Actually, the first two parts of my post are true. The third one was a satirical exaggeration. I'm still rollin' with regular undies. But being a caregiver for an aging parent has forced me to become intimately acquainted with disposable undergarments. I think about them quite a bit. Sadly, just about the time that I get done helping with my dear mother-in-law, I will possibly need Depends and a caregiver to change them. We're supposed to be family on Talkbass. Any volunteers?

M. M. :)

I feel your pain, brother! I'm squeezed between a 7-year-old daughter (my first and love of my life) and an 87-year-old mother. We're getting old with parents who are either gone or getting *very* old. Sigh...

I can only be a long distance cuz on this one, though I can give you some moral support, as to how good that is, only you can measure that!

That's for sure. My parents have been gone for a long time, but now we're dealing with my 91 year old mother-in-law. She'd been living on her own (with our unacknowledged help), but now she's slipping into some serious dementia and my wife has been tying herself in emotional knots over moving her into adult foster care. Her mother is resisting it because she has a false sense of independence since we've been been doing all the food preparation, laundry, cleaning, finances, etc., basically enabling her to live in what has become an unsafe situation. We've finally got a spot lined up for her in an AFC home, but it's gonna be a rough transition. My wife has some serious health issues of her own and doesn't need the additional stress, so I've been spending a lot of time "talking her off the ledge" and helping out wherever I can, but it's wearing both of us down. There's finally a light at the end of the tunnel that doesn't look like an oncoming train and I'm hoping we can do some of the things we've wanting to do while she can still see, but have been putting off in order to care for her mother. With all the things that have been hitting us in the past few years, it's sometimes hard to keep my head up, but believe it or not, you guys have helped out in that regard with this thread. So, thanks!

I am not liking your post because of the situation that you have delt with, but rather that you appreciate those that have given you moral support from folks here that you may never meet, but yet they have been a positive mental crutch for you and that has helped you. It is your acknowledgement of their support with your appreciation is what I liked!

Good thing that your screen name isn't "Kobe Bryant".. I would gather that several would be asking you of your opinion of the latest rendition of the Star Spangled Banner!

I moved my 80 year old mother in last year.. it really has been a trial by fire roller coaster ride so far!
I feel your pain. We moved in with my mother in law when she was told she had 3 months to live, terminal cancer. She lived 3 years slowly going down. It's painful to watch.

On a brighter note, the other day my friend said, "you know, when I wake up I feel like I'm 90 years old. As the day goes on I get younger! I LOL'ed.

Hey grumps, I need your advice. I was considering buying a 2012 Gallien Krueger MB-500. It's made in China. Also, it has combo speakons. What would be the pros and cons of buying a used but lightly used Gallien Krueger? Were there ever any technical difficulties with the Chinese versions?

I am a bit bothered about buying a Chinese product when for $200 more I could buy the Made In USA model. But I bought a Made In USA MB-200 used and it's worked flawlessly. So what say yee, grumpy old farts?
Thanks in advance. Happy Friday by the way!

There was lightly spotty concerns with some of the MB combos. Getting his Chinese workers to implement the needed revisions was one of many reasons Gallien walked production away from his China plant (some others were a US employee having to be always present Mr Gallien was there 4 times a year, rising wages there, his China employees were already well paid by him, transportation costs, doubling the final testing once here in the US). Bob Gallien worked very hard to keep the quality high, his name is on the products and it was his factory not a build house.

Hi B-string. It sounds like if I can get the head for a good deal I should take it then. The owner claims he is the original owner and hasn't gigged that much since 2012 when he bought it. Thinking about pulling the trigger....And I'm guessing there really hasn't been any tone change since 2012 after they returned production to the USA. Thanks much for your input.

The tone change was done in the MB2-500 (at TB'ers requests) and after all bugs were worked out the MB2-500 was replaced by the MB-500 that is produced today. Any major changes in G-K products and they get a rev series in the model number like 400RB III, IV, 700RB II.

Hmmmm, so if I'm understanding correctly the Chinese version is before the customer created tone changes. That doesn't sound like a good deal for me. I was kicking the idea around because I don't have a MB-500. But if it isn't as nice as the new Made in USA model maybe I should wait and get the current model. I don't even know how I could find out if I liked the tone from the Chinese model unless I bought it and that's a crap shoot. Thanks B.

No, you misunderstood. The tone from the post 2012 USA models is the same from the China pre 2013s. The tone of the early MB2-500's was different (unless sent in for the updated preamp). The MB2-500 was the first release, the "2" was dropped for the revised model and no MB-500 "II" exists. Many MB2-500's were traded in for a free upgrade to the MB-500 at G-K's cost (the free exchange lasted at least three years I remember).

Bob Gallien moved assembly away from China on 12/31/2012 by the way. I need to look back to make sure that wasn't 2011, the first amps leaving California had a sticker covering the "China" until those chassis supplies were used up.

Thanks for clearing that up. Makes sense to me now.
