Just a passing thought, Will. Were you on the Rockpile in '68, perchance? We got a lot of help from the trackhead 8s when my bn was at Khe Sanh.

No sir. Didn't graduate until '70. The drill sergeant said our AIT group was going two directions after graduation. To West Germany and Vietnam. I lucked out-- luck of the draw and went to West Germany. I became a DAES Drug and Alcohol Education Specialist which means I had to collect the little yellow bottles in hte morning. Got threatened by a couple heroin addicts out processing them through Germany. The Army didn't want to send them back to the state until they were 'dried out.' Glad I got out of that job!

Funny, now that I think of it, my first Brazilian Experience was when I met Flora Purim in the back alley of the Agora in Cleveland, Ohio. :D Mid '70s, when she was pregnant with Diana. She was giddy as a little girl when she told us that she was pregnant. :cool:

Nah, I was an Army grunt in Alaska at Ft Wainwright in the eighties. 11B. My dad’s a retired Col. Air Defense Artillery, basically surface to air missiles, but also started as a grunt, although that was in 1954, in Korea.

That would be the ELF (Extremely Low Frequency) communications station. The only way to communicate with a submerged sub over any great distance. Not a lot of data can be sent that way but in an emergency a sub can be summoned to radio depth for instructions.
