What is the ideal lung capacity to produce 30 hz? How much lung capacity do I really need to produce that tone if I have a passive high pass filter mouthpiece? Anyone have an excursion graph for the reeds?
Sadly Taylor Guitar's Andy Powers has recently begun using the term "lung capacity" to help describe acoustic guitar capability. It's in the latest W&S propaganda rag. :rollno: Makes me want to burn the Taylor I have. Hey, how many BTUs can one get from the average Taylor guitar?
 

Those are Imperial Japanese aircraft listening stations for field deployment.
In effect, a very large stethoscope to listen for approaching aircraft, detect them at the furthest range then possible (before radar), and direct antiaircraft artillery fire upon them.
Actually, they were surprisingly effective until the advent of high altitude (20,000 ft+) bombers.
Other nations had similar devices until supplanted by radar.
 
Yep. There are a coupla contrabass saxes: 1 an octave below a bari, another an octave below a bass. Then there's this-the tubax(I'm not making that up)sub contrabass sax

The most efficient operation of the "Tubax" is to place the mouthpiece directly in front of a 15" bass driver, powered by a blue line Ampeg SVT, and pump a 5 string bass through it at max volume, in order to generate the necessary atmospheric pressure to drive an air column through the instrument.
The 15" must be driven with tube watts because...........

Note the mute sponge. It looks like a yellow sponge with maybe a piece of green felt in top. It provides a good sound, something that I'll try.

It looks like a small 'wrecked angle' cut from one of those sponges that has a scratchy pad surface on the back.

I thought the same and wondered how a scouring pad would affect the strings. At a hardware store today I saw a tile grouting sponge with a thick microfiber layer on the top. I wonder if anything more than a sponge would be needed. That's all that Fender supplied with their PBasses back then.

As far back as it is and the fact the strings aren't likely to move much there, should be ok-and really clean.
