Note the mute sponge. It looks like a yellow sponge with maybe a piece of green felt in top. It provides a good sound, something that I'll try. I have felt picks (Dunlop) that make a nice muted sound over any other type of pick. So felt on a mute isn't a stretch. On a pick it works well.

I'm guessing that's just a cut down kitchen sponge with a scrubby side, like this one I have in my kitchen. Be interesting if that scrubby bit works to make it better.
