Prefer birds don't yell at me over wearing hearing protection when I walk Odin.

A cardinal landed on my hand the other day. He was very picky about what sunflour seeds he wanted. Took his time finding just the right ones. He didn't say a word. Seemed like a dignified bird. I don't imagine that birds would do that with Odin near by since his breeding is that of a hunter.

Nuthatches will pitch the duff seeds off your hand, and are not shy in telling you about it. I can hear them over across the street fairly often but they rarely come into our yard. I guess they're picky about which kinds of trees they'll hang in too. OTOH, the Scrub Jays will just try to grab them all at once, especially if whole peanuts are on the menu.

I've hand fed scrub jays peanuts in the past. They seemed very willing to accept them. It's frowned on by FWC, so I quit doing it. 'Regular' blue jays will take anything they can get and let me know when I'm tardy with the seed.

From what I understand, they have territories that are enforced. Maybe the Scrub Jays won’t allow the Nuthatches into your yard to protect their source of food.

Yep, I stopped hand feeding a few years ago myself, albeit a bit reluctantly. As always, I try to use common sense and take things like this case by case. The ones you get in Florida are notoriously tame, whereas it took decades for the clan to really accept my wife and me.

Good point, but I think they're mostly too busy herding raccoons, possums, squirrels, and pesky humans to bother with the little guys. We've had to take the seed feeders down for now due to squirrels monopolizing them. There are some grand Rube Goldberg solutions though, and they'll get theirs in due course.

We see Steller's Jays every day about 100 yards down the street. Again, different trees over there and hilly terrain trasitioning to slightly higher altitude. I can readily differentiate by vocalizations well before I see them. The Gorge is all about microclimates and there are at least three or four different ones within siight of my house.

I may be the only one, but I would much rather listen to Steve Martin play the banjo than Bela Fleck. I am no way saying Steve is better, just more melodic for my listening pleasure.

Also, I assume Steve is the funnier of the two.

I always liked the banjo playing of Mr. Tony Hicks in The Hollies. Tony helped his son Paul get started in the music business. An Abbey Road engineer and producer, he went on to have some Beatle connections.

Paul Hicks (musician) - Wikipedia

Stop Stop Stop is about a belly dancer. Tony does a banjo solo here.

Some background.

Om

I mean um in fact some few years ago accepted an impromptu invitation to a funeral reception of a Buddhist bagpiper. Impromptu as in a visiting friend said, want to come with me to the reception now? And there's the momentary lapse of reason where neurons misfire as I try to put "Buddhist" and "piper" together in my mind. And replied, yeah sure, let's go. Yes, it was a strange reception, too, turns out the recently deceased was a volunteer fireman too.

I knew there was a reason I queued up Seven Faces of Dr. Lao on the computer today. What should I see in a drive-by but a set with an American West newspaper office. Complete with a hand-fed broadsheet press. In Real Life, once anyone who could haul a letterpress and set up shop set up a license to print money. But yeah look at that desk and chair, pulled from lot storage somewhere and probably saw more on screen time than a lot of actors .... totally want that desk and chair. The chair's a bit austere for all day at the desk, but here in the future we don't sit at our desk all day!

Tony Randall on the big screen will make it a great night tonight here with a lemonade. :woot:

I just want to be clear that I liked your post, not the noise coming out of the dude's guitar in the video.

I made it 23 seconds before shutting it off. Anybody make it longer watching the video? ;)

Skipped ahead and stopped it at 1:40
