I did not realize Mort Drucker passed away yesterday. I had natural talent as an artist early on (unlike any natural musical ability) and considered a career in art. It was when I took an art class and was studying the "paint spilled on canvas" abstract art that I said "I'm out!". I studied Mort and Jack Davis' work and copied their styles into my caricatures. I also realized it would be difficult to make a living as a cartoonist and so I kept it as a hobby.

One of my prized possessions is an autographed copy of Mort's book.

I have an album of some of my sketches from over the years. One caricature is of Geddy Lee playing his bass.

As said almost word for word by Stanley Mouse. Without whom we would not have that iconic figure "Rat Fink".
I would love to see some of your charactures. It was the short film on Jackson Pollock's methods that cured me of abstract art. All I could think to myself was that looked like my room when my Dad made me repaint it.

Ed Roth.

I bow to your Hot Rod knowledge La Contessa. Mouse was a protege of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth and worked for and with him prior to going to San Francisco and joining the Psychedelic art movement. But he never stopped trying to compete with Roth creating "monster" Rat cartoons that Drag Racers would pay top dollar for. He made more of a name for himself creating posters for Bill Graham of Fillmore fame and Chet Helm of the Family Dog in the 60's and 70's.
With that said you are absolutely correct that Ed Roth is credited as being the artist of Rat Fink.

When we were discussing Dave Allen earlier, I went on yoot oob and watched some of his sketches and stand....,er sit down routines.Still freakin' hilarious. I crack up at White's line about being 6'1 to 6'4 depending on which convenience store he's in.
