Thanks for the link. This thread is ALL about the amps/cabs, etc… Any fool who opinions that this is some sorta buddy fest about nothing at all… meet yet another example of pure tech geek amp talk!

Yessireeee, they had also better watch the tone when making their comments. Best they know who they are messing with these opiners... Lest they be caned with real canes by a gackle of raging GOFs!!!

All I want to know: is there some kinda Mac friendly rectangular box calculating program for creating speaker thingies? I used to have a PC but then I got a Mac and I've got like a mental (psychological black out that is protecting me) amnesia as far as Windows.
(no I'm not looking for a platform war debate just wondering if there's a program that I can use with the gear I have),

You can run win stuff on mac. I think "bootcamp" is the common way among maccies at work. I've run virtualbox on linux and windows, which allows you to install windows or anything else within the virtualbox VM: Oracle VM VirtualBox It works pretty good, but some funny things can happen that permo-crash the VM (just like real Windows!), like if the disk gets full. So, it's good to keep the VM backed up, or be prepared to recreate (easy, if you don't have saved data that's important and not backed up)

How can I run Windows applications on a MacBook Pro?

winISD has an online version that should work if it works :D I've never tried it: LinearTeam

There may be other on-line programs that would help you.

Thanks for the replies… will check it out. Luckily, my music guru is sorta computer software tech support specialist. I've got an old MacBook Pro laptop, but I'm worming my way towards guru's old desktop Mac that I think is already set up to run windows (he's upgraded and has offered it once already). I'm still gassing for one or two Kappa 3012lf's.

I kicked around the idea of doing my own deluxe speaker cab but in the end, I knew I was just having a delusion. I'm a perfectionist, and I want it done right. I know I would make too many mistakes and it would end up in the woodpile. People like @DukeLeJeune do it day in and day out and the cab I bought from him came out perfect. And it sounds so excellent, if you closed your eyes you wouldn't know it was so small. It sounds HUGE!

So rather than torment myself I preferred to pay out the few hundred more to have it done perfectly right. Glad I did. When I got my Audiokinesis it was just plug and play! :)

At least one version of WinISD has been reported to work fine using WINE, FWIW. So has Boxsim, which is a much more comprehensive program. Only the Greman version is listed as tested and confirmed, but it might be worth trying the English version anyway, given that it's freeware. And finally, Invalid Link Removed will run on Macs, Linux, or Windoze.

Duke gave me the design for my best sounding cab (I call it the DCML 2X12 DukeCajunManLejeune). It sounds better than pro cabs despite housing suspect mystery woofers. Duke guided me because he has a big heart and a good sense of humor.:cool:

The DCML 2x12 is the cab I'd like to slap the Kappa's into as he suggested, but want mathematical gizmos to confirm my ear hole calculations: Science?. I'm a perfectionist also: that's why I rolled my own;); I mean how can I know the inside's perfect if I don't tear it apart to make sure or build it from scratch?
I have trust issues… or just the ol' mad scientist's desire to rip apart and rebuild to look at the pretty guts syndrome. DIY is not everyone's cup of tea but I'm a retired carpenter and have all the tools, more time than money, etc.

You are much more of an expert than I am. I really enjoyed reading your post. I have a small shed but it's full of junk. And I did make a small bookstand in high school! LOL.
Actually in the late 70's I built a couple of my own 1-15 cabs and even a 1-18 folded horn. I was able to take apart an Ampeg 115 and an Acoustic 118 folded horn and I just mimicked the dimensions. Did I know what I was doing? Heck no! But I had fun. Even finished them in Tolex and everything. When I finished them I got twice as much as I put into them. Then I turned around and bought an Ampeg head/cab!

You can run Windows on a Mac using Parallels or a version of Virtual PC. If your Mac is getting a little long in the tooth, may I suggest swapping out the HDD for a SS drive. All my older Macs have Samsung 500Gb SSDs and the machines are now pretty darn fast.

My wife’s old original iMac is going to get the same treatment when a drive adapter. 3.5” to 2.5”, arrives.

Excellent advice BassmanPaul. I've found using the SSD's doubles the performance of older computers. Especially laptops. Breathes new air into them. :thumbsup:
