Now they’re talking about making masks mandatory in public indoor spaces. Someone opened a COVID supply store up the street. Masks, shields, gallon sized sanitizer, all in bulk for the long haul.

It used to be that folks wore kerchief masks on the trail or when robbing stage coaches. Women wore them when they had a hickey. Now the people that sell masks wear them as they take your money.

Wearing a mask OUTDOORS? I might be in the minority here but I refuse to wear a mask outside and inside most places unless it is truly mandatory. I am fine with the choice of those that do wear a mask, whether it is for real health concerns or paranoia.

I feel the biggest reason for the recent rise in numbers is opening of bars and other venues which packs in people. I think most restaurants follow safe measures. I went Sunday to Applebee's with my wife. We wore a mask to go into the restaurant until we got to our seat and wore one when you got up to go to the bathroom or to leave after you ate. That makes sense but when I see people riding a bike down the street with a mask on. Hilarious!

I find that some who wear a mask don’t feel that they need to distance when they are passing by. A lot of people just don’t care anymore and they simply have no respect for others.

Elevators make me nervous, sometimes you have to take them. At one point, they limited passengers to three, then two, then back to three, now they don’t restrict the numbers. More than two, if someone else gets on, I exit.

I see people give others very wide berth on the city sidewalks. The parking ticket crew walks the beat with no masks. There's two of them that I see, plus a helper to maintain the meters. Many meters are closed for free parking for restaurant pick up.

Parking is a financial enterprise for the city, and for the city's contractors. And a tax on the unlucky.

Being around drunks is more depressing to me than being around stoners.

My day beyond the house begins with a doctor's appointment. It's a 15 minute walk and always pleasant. This one is a yearly visit. They messed up my paperwork this week. They rang me a week ago Wednesday to remind me to do my labs. They rang me again Tuesday to ask why they don't have the labs and I set them straight because I was still carrying a slight hematoma where the blood was drawn Thursday.

Expect today's doctor visit will be a nothingburger. Except we will have pleasant conversation because I really praised the novel he wrote about global warming. It's to be 33 today so there will be a coffee in the sunshine as I watch the meter guys walk the beat without masks.

Living downtown, I sometimes have to use meters when I go somewhere. Plus I pay monthly to park indoors near my place. In order to reduce traffic the city wants to discourage people from owning cars. I pay a special premium for my vehicle registration because I live in a congested area. They get you coming and going.

With digital meters, you can pay and check time remaining online with an app. Too bad for those that are ephone-less. You’d think that they would need less parking authority prowlers but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

People here are getting very creative with the bandana style ones, adding various bits to make them a bit more effective. Masks have already been mandatory for a while here, I'll wear one because it makes others in the very rare commercial spaces I go to feel more comfortable, and that's all I have to say about that.

Good question. Standard masks are useless in my case because of the beard. I'm mostly using a bandanna, it covers my beard quite well. But I haven't been to a restaurant or bar in four months, not even takeout, and have no intention of going to either any time soon. Don't miss that at all, honestly. I talk to lots of people in my rare trips to the stores I have to use, and most of my cues are taken from what will keep them as comfortable as possible.

It sounds like masks are becoming a fashion statement.
We have to wear them here too (you will get a nice little fine if you get caught without one) and some people are starting to wear the kind with the plastic shield for your face although the majority don't. Masks are mainly to protect other people at least most of the ones people wear, I think the N95 masks will protect the wearer but they're hard to get.

In the time of the plague, statistics were published in detail we seldom see here in the future. That 10 people died of king's evil in a time of kings tells you something right there. Kings don't much care to touch commoners.
