Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

Suppose I'm lucky in that many of my MDs are within easy walking distance (15 minutes). The old hospital there was a Catholic hospital and was absorbed into the greater system. The only beds there are reserved for hospice and psych. The phlebotomists know me by now. The cafeteria is very good, and inexpensive. But not taken the pleasure since March.

I was s'posed to have one yesterday(Mon.)but it's in West Palm Beach[I live ~50 miles away], same 'plumbing' doctor I went to when I lived there. I only hafta see him 3to4 times/year, and having driven 18 wheelers for 23 years, 50 miles is nothing-to me, anyway. However, right now Palm Beach County is-I think-#3 in FL in positives and I'm in the high risk group.

High Risk Group High Five, dood! ✋

...can’t give it a ‘like’, but, yeah, I get it...:)

I recall passing by a drug rehab center. There was a line outside the outpatient entrance. Many were smoking dope. No longer considered a drug I suppose. Or maybe they get it for free there.
I don't think that's the point of rehab. But weed and smack are not in the same league. I question why anyone would be smoking weed in public, even where legal. Around here it's just not done. Except downtown where the bars are. So, ok, it's done.

Every Sunday people gather in a park by the hundreds and bang drums and smoke dope in three different spaces. The cops are there in large numbers, they do nothing. The smell is noticeable blocks around. It lingered even yesterday morning, Monday. It’s common to smell dope on the street, people smoke it wherever they want with no consequences. It’s just going to get worse with time.

That sounds like Fine afternoon in the park.

I imagine the officers are there to keep a lid on the violence inherent in any such a gathering.

I sure wouldn’t want them spending their valuable time, and my valuable tax dollars running a bunch of toasted drummers up the river! :)

The cops could point to the river and tell the drummers to start running..................

It may be I know a thing or two about American cops, and I've personally found them to be universally unhelpful. And stating so as one who worked for them, having been deputized for, let us say, valor in the heat of the moment as I wielded my Leicas properly in a tony neighborhood.

Somewhere in the chain of command someone saw to it my ident (with an actual fingerprint on the back) has no expiration date. Highly unusual, I was told, and signed by the big (and famous) chief. If discreetly presented, it is a free pass on traffic tickets :woot:

I find the Gardai (Garda Síochán), to be conspicuously helpful, and always respectful. Strange, no?

The only place I've ever smelled pot here in MA (and it's legal) is behind the sunday afternoon jam I go to a lot. It's been going on as long as I've been going there, maybe 15 years, pot's only been legal in MA for a couple of years.

Everything is legal here in Peru in small quantities if you only have one thing but you never see anything or smell anything here. If you get caught with anything over the legal limit they can get you for trafficking and the jails here are not country clubs and the cops are known to pick people up (read rich looking gringos) even if you have less than the legal amount looking for bribes, that may have something to do it. You can buy coca tea in the supermarkets right next to the green tea or buy the raw leaves in the open air markets. You can possess less than 2 grams of cocaine here legally, I don't touch it but will drink the tea, very tasty.

Sounds safer than a bar. I tell ya, ever since they made alcohol legal again, it's just all been down hill.

Now they’re talking about making masks mandatory in public indoor spaces. Someone opened a COVID supply store up the street. Masks, shields, gallon sized sanitizer, all in bulk for the long haul.

It used to be that folks wore kerchief masks on the trail or when robbing stage coaches. Women wore them when they had a hickey. Now the people that sell masks wear them as they take your money.
