My understanding with the Talman TMB30 is the neck may be a lot beefier than I'd care to play. I'd have to try before I'd buy. Yes the local brick and mortar is an Ibanez dealer but here we are wondering if we can take showers yet or should we just keep washing our hands.

The Tribute Fallout looks like a win to me. I like the look of the rosewood fingerboard but don't so much like the look of the black or oly white. The surf green is attractive to me until I reach the logical point of what I can wear with a surf green bass. That comes down to play a black bass (with tort ) and wear anything, or play a surf green bass and wear black. The oly white one makes me think of some Italian-American GOF in a function band.

That leaves the candy apple red ... maybe ... that was my first instinct, candy apple red.

The beefy neck on the Talman is a big plus for me. My Squier SS Jag's neck is J-sized, and I cramp up after about an hour, if that long. That's the main reason it lives quietly in its bag. I like its sound just fine, though.

I watched a few videos on the Tribute Fallout and like the way it sounds there. How it feels is what would make or break it for me. Its neck spec seems wide enough at the nut, but they describe it as a "slim C." Makes me wonder whether I'd be asking "Where's the beef?" after a while.

I could order either from Sweetwater at no risk, but I'd rather try them out first.

And of course I'll forget before that time rolls around.

Whoa, how have I lived this long without seeing and hearing that? That drove me to the 'Tube, where I saw another Janis tune, from Dick Cavett's show, that's I'd not seen before. On one video a person commented to the effect that people think Beyonce is the best female singer ever. Janis: "Hold my acid."

OMG I go to great lengths to NOT modify my basses. If they don't perform out of the box they're gone. Then again, I'm not very picky as long as the bass sounds good, trimmed fretwire, tight neck, low action. Maybe I should consider dipping into the mod waters one of these days.......

I've never seriously modded an instrument. I've got a set of pickups that I've never put into the Jag. I don't count adding stuff like Straploks as mods. I do my own setups and some easy fret work, a lot of which I learned from Dave's World of Fun Stuff. If I were unhappy with how the P sounded I'd check out different pickups or electronics, but I've loved it from day one.

A black color looks good on stage and doesn't show fingerprints. In the days of back&white TV, black was the way to go. Elvis dyed his red hair black. Roy Orbison adopted a dark image. John Lennon had his Rickenbacker guitar refinished in black. All because they looked better when performing.

Subscriber of Dave's World of Fun Stuff, and I have neither the workspace, tools, or inclination for fretwork or soldering. I get it but seeing as there are plenty of people who like to do that (and are good at it), it's fair all around.

Doing a string installation and setup is something I like doing, so long as I don't have to remove the neck or file the nut &c &c.

Speaking of strings, now that the La Bella LTFs are really broken at 7 months in and sounding great, temptation beckons with an unopened package of Dunlop .040 - .100 flats.
