It's so easy to buy things but not get rid of the old stuff. Starting to feel a bit crowded. A good weekend clean will clean up our little house admirably.

I installed my last new computer today and have to take a week to inventory for the City and plan my FY21 master order. Unusual this year we are ordering more laptops than desktops. Many of our staff are able to remote in since their work is mostly administrative. The field guys who work in streets, in the garage and water treatment are a bit more basic users and only require desktops. Nice to have some breathing room after a crazy 8 months... So what say ye, GOF's--what do you have planned this weekend?

Over the past few year years I have moved from desktops to laptops. Laptops, especially those of the i5+ standard have enough power and portability. I am donating the older desktops to schools along with the older laptops I acquired before retirement.

1) Watch Bearcat football tomorrow
2) Grocery shopping (I lead an exciting life)
3) Practice 2 hours tomorrow and another 2 hours on Sunday.

Doing not a dadburn thing is a luxury

Which means I'll abound in great luxury this weekend.

And a firm vote here for "today" medicine. I blanche to think of what they did to exhausted joints 50 years ago. Actually, I do know, and it weren't pretty. The end users got limited basic functionality.

Wow, so I signed off on a bone marrow sample too. Guess that while they were in there, right?

I spec'd and built this desktop to my own taste, with an eye to expandability. SSD boot drive and OS drive; another SSD program drive; a "green and small" 3 terrabyte storage drive ... I could drop a thousand into it right away with a big CPU and low(ish) end graphic card that I absolutely don't need right now.

I've a good view.

Welp, not much, same as always these days...I have three more weeks, nine sessions, of cardiac rehab to go. Looks like I've been press-ganged into going to my mother-in-law's house for pizza tomorrow afternoon. Can't deny a 90-year-old lady her pizza when she wants it (though she didn't know she did until Mrs. Tango put the bug in her ear, so guess who really must want the pizza), so one knows where one's duty lies. I 'spose I'll watch the ladies play golf on the TeeVee at a course in Atlantic City that I've just got to try to play One Fine Day.

You'd be okay to augment the brandy with a couple of Motrin/Ibuprofen or Tylenol/Acetaminophen to reduce inflammation/pain in the first case, or just pain in the second. Brandy and the "proper Rx" don't mix, tho -- which is why you've waited to sip the brandy, no doubt.

Motrin/Ibuprofen and Tylenol/Acetaminophen are both strictly proscribed for me. Ordinary .325 mg aspirin is what they required, and rang me the day following surgery to make sure I am taking it.

I have a Dell XPS 15 laptop. Non touch. I found the Gorilla Glass made the lid too top heavy and I still like using keyboard shortcuts. Faster than a mouse. Anyway, it was holiday time and I ordered the laptop with 8GB of RAM, a 250GB SSD, i5 processor for $1099 using my Dell Financial Services charge card. What arrived was an XPS 15 with 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD, and an i7 10th gen processor. I called Dell and explained the mistake. They offered it to me for $100 more and I said I had a specific budget. I was hedging and the customer support rep said hold on I'll be right back.

When he got back on he said because I bought it with Dell Financial Services it would be a major problem to return it and credit then re-order. He said I could keep the laptop for $1099 if I agreed, and also I would get a $100 Dell gift card. I agreed, so in the end, I got an $1,199 laptop for $999 due to Dell's error. I did apply the card to my Dell account to drop the price. The laptop is 1/2" thick, super bright screen, and it's pretty speedy. I don't do anything resource intensive, so it's a great bargain for me. Here's a generic pic of it...

My wife (the financial maven) sweats my income post retirement so I was planning on working another couple of years to get the full SS benefits and max out my high three years. (That's what my pension is based on.) I'd go tomorrow if I thought she'd be OK with it. Today SHE brought up the possibility of going earlier. Just goes to show what a little patience (and keeping my mouth shut) can accomplish,.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm in the state PERS system which is different than SS. I've been at the City for 21 years this December. I bought my Army time and I'm 68 now. I'm probably the oldest staff at the City! I bought a new Subaru a few years ago and figured I'd have it paid off February 2022, when I turn 70. I would then retire with my last highest 3 years.

After retirement I will still get insurance for myself and Carey for a small amount monthly and PERS will pay the balance. Primera has been excellent coverage, when Carey was medevacked to UW hospital it would have ruined us financially if we didn't have the insurance. Honestly though, I don't look my age, still have a fun energetic day at work with the young 'uns, so even at 70 I'm going to miss working. Sometimes I think while we have two candidates in their mid to late seventies running for office why should I quit if I still love my job and I'm capable? I dunno I might be ready in 18 months...
