A Sweetwater catalogue and, now, a Land's End catalogue, grace the loo. I stop myself in my tracks as I realize I'm seriously looking at a shawl. A shawl. "That's what old ladies wear", as visions of Tweety Bird's Granny present themselves.

When I was much younger, I wondered why most older folks wore the huge (fitover) sunglasses. Now I don't go out of the house without mine. I'm more into being comfortable than wondering about how others perceive me. Buy a shawl if you want!

One of the stranger aspects of lockdown for me has been the total absence of makeup. I'm not big on full makeup, but I do like to do my eyes. That stopped with nowhere to go but the supermarket and chemist. Nobody I talk to on Zoom conferences cares. With our conference times in narrow windows so people in California and Australia can confer in real time, that means someone is going to be in their jammies.
Turned that around for myself with dressing for some presence in my bass videos. That idea only came a month ago ... Learning to present a piece of bass something or other to a camera ... I'm really kind of pleased with the process of learning a piece and playing it to the camera. A bit of eye shadow ...
The final piece for me this year is a spider exercise on the E and A strings. You made that sound like walking bass ... and all I will say in my defense is I've become deeply interested in fingerings, and in technique in general.
And just a step to the left, and we find me in my shawl in my quality rocking chair, and Odin at my side. Well who doesn't like rocking chairs?!

Like a shawl, I have a wool blanket/throw from Scotland. Made with recycled wool. They are used in the UK by the horsey crowd outside when watching shows. Nice and warm to pull over you while sitting on a cold day. Dogs like them too.

Well, speaking of being comfortable, I ordered a pair of Levi’s overalls today. It helps with lower back pain to not have the pressure of a waistband. I’ll try them this winter when I start slipping on the ice.

I have put off posting anywhere about this book, because it's more theory than most bass players are interested in. But I love it. And its approach. It was written by Joel Di Bartolo, long-time bass player in the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson band. When he retired from there, he came back to Flagstaff and taught jazz bass at the local uni (NAU), before he passed away in 2011.

Sounds dull. It's not.
What made me think of it for you is its presentation: notation and some fingering (no tab). It covers positions other than the 1st. Lots of patterns. Useful! I think you'd like and enjoy it. Well written and structured.

Right on! Right on! I just gots to have my fitover sunglasses. Fairly cheap, too!

Love me some cheap sunglasses. I used to have a pair with white plastic frames. All of the guys in my band would slip on a pair of cheapies before we played this song.
What sent me down the 'fitover road' was my inability to see my float/bobber when fishing with live bait after switching my spectacles for sunglasses. I didn't want to invest in prescription sunglasses. Fitovers are definitely less expensive to replace.

My cheapest sunglasses are the free ones after the doctor dilates your eyes. That's one of the final words in senior citizen look!

Believed my MTftBP course was complete, and that I'd be free to study what I wish until the next round in January. That belief is not founded in reality and has been binned. For all of us who completed the material now have a week and a half to record and submit a blues, funk, motown, or reggae groove or solo (any or all). The result will be a video collage of all of us doing our thing, right.

I have a lot of family in that area. Parents grew up near Hudson and I grew up in Selkirk...
After a long day it's always a pleasure to drop by the GOF's for stimulating thoughts. I studied bass theory with a passion in the 70's when I played with Joe Brazil's University of Washington Jazz Band. Then I discovered Allman Brothers and Stevie Ray Vaughn LOL! Of course I cut my teeth on the 60's Jack Casady's Jefferson Airplane Wishbone Ash Jack Bruce but I've always been a meat and potatoes bass player. Think ZZTop. Made a professional touring career out of that. I'm not ashamed or embarrassed-- I did my time in theory. But I love 1-4-5. Still do.
Calculating I have 15 payments until I pay off my (not so new) Subaru. Probably Summer of 2022 I will do the Big R. I'll be 70 years old but I don't even feel 68 now! I know I don't look it but at the end of the day I sure feel it! My director is a boy genius on Enterprise networking and computing, and right now I'm going through a learning spurt and loving it. Once I collect all the computer data into an Excel spreadsheet and do the same for all the printers, said boss will create workgroup policies that will install Office, Adobe Acrobat, assorted programs, and printers by group. It's so smart and efficient. I remember when I started at the City of Sitka I had to install Office from CD's, then DVD's. Now we're Office in the Cloud. I feel comfortable that the IT is in good hands when I leave. Exciting stuff.
Weather's been crisp, a nice chill in the air and the ground is covered with multicolored tree leaves. I love the fall and especially Halloween.

Flannel jammies. PJs are still popular. Many jammy owners wear only the Ps and leave the Js off.
