Not to start a religious war, seriously, but relics are something I just never took to. I was raised to treat all musical instruments with care and respect. I hate putting even the tiniest nick or scratch on one. I dunno, do relics satisfy some need to buy street cred, so that you can look like you just came off a 9-month tour in a 70s Ford Econoline van with no roadies or something?

I had a late 60's nitro CAR P bass from 1977 until 1995 and that was a real relic, most of them look fake to me after seeing what really happens to a bass that is played constantly for years, it was my only bass for most of that time and i played a lot.

When I was a wee lad in Wrangell in the early 60's our next door neighbor's husband had a 10 year old Telecaster. It was a natural finish with a black pickguard. I had already bought my Alden's Strat poor copy and I could really feel the difference in quality. The Fender was rock solid. A year later our neighbors decided to leave town and the husband offered me the guitar for $150 with HSC. I have no idea what it would be worth now. The one that got away.....

Another one was "What can Fender do to make their relic basses more realistic?" I put in a poll with stuff like: put cigarette burns on the headstock (which believe it or not they did start to do), widen the neck-pocket in the body so the neck can really slop around, put the bridge on crooked etc, it was a lot of fun until one of the mods who happened to like Relics came along.

Back in the mid '70s I worked with a guy who said he couldn't carry a tune in a sack (he was from some hollar, over there).

After 44 years, I dropped my home phone land line. It kind of feels strange not to have a home phone. But I don't need it and haven't used it in the last year save for a weekly call from a family member. I suppose that land lines will disappear as GOF's die off. The cell quality seems to be just as good these days, it wasn't the case in the past.

I hate dealing with the phone company but that's another story! What prompted this was that I had a $30 per month discount on my TV service for the last 20 years. Whenever it expired, they would reinstate it. This time the answer was no because I didn't call before the end of last month. Last year when I called before the end of the month and was told that I'd needed to wait this year for it to expire. Their story changes at their convenience. So out of spite I cancelled my home phone service. It wound up costing the phone company more that their $30 discount.


I'm wondering, do you still have a land line?

I think we deleted our land line somewhere around 2003...whenever satellite internet access came to my locale.

Gave ours up last year. It was just a spam call magnet!
