Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

Some companies seem to have adopted a lazy approach to doing business. Two parts orders were made from two electronics suppliers. Both claim that orders received before a certain hour in the evening will ship that day with packages overnighted. One took three days to get out the door, then UPS didn't deliver overnight as expected. The other is sitting in their warehouse after four days. These are automated suppliers, robots handle a good part of the work.

By contrast, I placed an order from Manchester UK on Monday. It was out that day, flew to Memphis, got on another plane and delivered by FedEx Tuesday before noon during a snow storm. One company that wants to do business.

I also have two incoming packages, one from Cork Ireland and one from Liverpool England, both in the Royal Mail. It's been over a month. Normally it takes a week, door to door. It seems that these days its worth paying for a premium delivery service. Or perhaps that's the carriers intent.

Most of the stuff I've ordered in the past year has arrived sooner than the estimate. My wife sent Xmas cards to a friend in St Louis and to her dad in a small MO town south of StL on the same day. The friend in StL got his card in about three days. Her dad never did get his. We've also had problems with other mail to that area. Something is breaking down in the routing. Probably covid related and/or the hubbub last year with the changes in the PO management. We've not had any problems sending or receiving with Priority Mail but it is taking longer.

FWIW, Mouser has been much quicker than usual for me lately. I've noticed that they no longer overtly promise same day shipping when ordering by 3PM their time, but they've discounted two day UPS and FedEx options heavily ($8.89 in the US) and both times recently when they took two days to ship they've then upgraded to overnight delivery at no charge. I used to have to allow a week for the cheapest shipping option, so two to three days looks pretty great to me. OTOH, I'm seeing longer lead times on out of stock items and have to pay close attention to backorders now.

In the madness called Buying New Clothes During Lockdown, a package wasn't picked up at the vendor more more than a week. One email to the service center later, the package was "found" and delivered some while later. Maybe it got to holiday where I wanted to holiday.

No worries. February 3 is the Celtic first day of spring — Imbolc, the astrological midpoint between winter solstice and vernal equinox. I've heard some primitive people :woot: hold celebrations and such to mark the day.

We made our Brigid's Crosses and hung them on the front door.

The lady is arguing with her granddaughter about giving it away. The granddaughter won't walk her or clean up but wants her around. Go figure. ?

umm I meant the dog!

Sounds like you're in the middle of a family feud, not a good place to be. I feel sad for the neglected dog. The granddaughter hasn't learnt that she's caring for a life, she needs to grow up and be a good mom for the dog.

The grandpa is very sick. That's why my lady friend who works at the City with me is retiring. It sounds kind of scary. She said, "I want to spend as much time with him as I can.." But the fact is, Grandpa spoils the granddaughter rotten, and she has absolutely no responsibilities. If something happens to Grandpa I think Grandma is going to rewrite the rules. In the meantime, I got an email that next Saturday we're going to try again to see if the little one is compatible with Carey and me. Fingers crossed.

Either way.

Lead times and out of stock are two killers. I needed Grayhill switches. Two were in stock at Newark, two at Mouser. Capacitors are a killer. There seems to be more and more products out of stock when I'm ordering. So orders often have to be split between three suppliers. Seemingly less of a problem with surface mount parts but often not what I want. Shipping charges add up, either that or go with larger orders that qualify for free shipping. Sometimes it makes sense to pad out orders, buying stuff for inventory that I don't need now, just to get the free shipping.

These companies keep getting swallowed up. Mouser is currently owned by BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY. I find that prices at mouser can be higher as a result. Newark has good sales. You always have to shop around.

Not all online retailers flag out-of-stock items as out-of-stock. What I see in the supermarketo are sporadically stocked items, especially in the meat section beyond the butcher's case. The back bacon I bought a few weeks ago hasn't been in stock since. Found smoked pork butt. Hadn't seen that before. Strange things are afoot at the Circle K.
