Funny, I am watching some live Yes from a while ago.
I just learned about this Japanese Yes tribute band. And, they're doing one of Yes' most difficult songs, to boot!
Which is why I retired-or sold-all the heavy[stuff]in favor of 3 different size Rumbles(40, 100, 200c).
Yes they can. And I'm sure those guys have shleppers to do the acoustic shlepping for them.
I haven't hung up my gear yet. I'm using smaller, lighter stuff. And playing some semi-acoustic gigs. Or, I did before covid. I don't plan to quit playing until my sell-by/expiration date has been reached. In other words, I'm playing untill I'm ready to become Soylent Green

The P____ is a keyboard amp with a 15, horn, and piezo. I played bass through it for years; and, of course, my practice amp, the Kasino-200W/2x15.('practice amp' 'cos I ain't gettin' no hernia loading it in the gigmobile)

If I had the gear I use now in 1980, I'd have had to slept on it to keep it from being stolen. My Peavey's genetic trait of excess mass meant it was mine all the way.

I really like acoustic basses. With pickups they amplify well. Maybe some day...
I had one(Michael Kelly 5er). Sounded great but its thick body against my thick body put it at an angle that was awkward to play. It was OK sitting, but at that time I rarely sat to play. Sold it. Might get another-some day.
I gave up lifting heavy amps some time ago. Social assistance for the elderly, aka having someone lift and carry for you, is nothing to be ashamed of. There's always options such as trading a lesson for some help.
And lifting an SVT or V4B onto a cabinet is nuts. I place them on the floor or on an ATA case.
I know what you mean about a thick instrument. Even a thin body but with sharp edges Rickenbacker can poke you in the ribs. Not all of them are like that.
I demo'ed a semi-acoustic Godin for a gig that was fantastic. It was a thin line. Worth trying if you see one in a shop.

Nice bass. A bit rich for my wallet. (GC has a used one for $800. Too much to spend on an experiment)

Yes is in the top 5 of my favorites. Exceedingly accomplished musicians. I keep two of their live performances on the DVR. Jon Anderson's voice has changed very little over the years. I think these guys are from outer space.
