There's plenty of room in my brain to imagine what this bass will do with Thundeblades. I'll want a reason to pick it up when the cat bass arrives. It's serves me pretty well and has that "other" 60s vibe. Americans played Fenders because nobody else could afford them LOL

In truth my inner bass ear is partly tuned to the Chas Chandler Rivoli, but also to the Starfire. Mine cops a lot of the look, much of the sound ... realistically not expecting Wickersham Bisonic wizardry but I think I can get kind of close with this beast ...

If not, simply remember that the ideal quantity of basses is...one more.

I put a neck position thunderblade in my VM Cabronita. It was a direct drop-in for the fidelitron. The difference it made to the sound was remarkable. Nice, punchy, gnarly tone that was even across all the strings. Pickup cost more than the bass...lol

Hollow and semi-hollow bodied basses tend to have a unique tone that other instruments don't have. Good enough reason to have one.

I have one of these in a Gretsch (Gibson uses them as well).

IF and that's a very big IF I have to go through another joint surgery, at least I know everything to expect. I also have crutches, and a boot. Insurance paid all but a dollar for the boot, and all but a dollar for the crutches. Two bills for a dollar each. Paid both with one check. Actually paid with paper. In the mail.



What I'm thinking without absolutely any knowledge of viability, wisdom, or usefulness is ... who knows? Not I.

Most of the time I play with both pickups on, bridge tone and volume backed off to taste. What I'm lusting for is some of that sidewinder thud with only the neck pickup on. It's kind of polite as is.

Edit. About the same coin or thereabouts could probably rehab my 'Ray. But not really feeling all keen on 34 inch scale. I know, I know. Dang if this ~31 inch scale isn't fun to play!

You might want to get the Ray up to snuff, just so you know that, merely sitting in its case, it's in proper shape. For me, an instrument that has wants and needs sits in my mind too much; I can't be really at peace until it's put to rights. Don't have to play it, but you'd know that if you wanted to, everything would be right.

Both My 'Ray and the Chowny are to be put "right", the only question is the order. The Chowny is more likely to see actual gig ™ use soonest, so ...

My Ray and I are old friends and deserves to be played out again.

The Chowny is a lot of instrument for ~600 Euro. Great finish. Super bargain. Hardware? It's a 600 Euro instrument. Replaced the tuning machines with Gotoh Res-o-Lite 350s. The immediate, and discernible, difference, is balance. It does stay in tune forever. But that' more a combination of the strings, the weather, my own physical self playing it .... No regrets, good upgrade, totally worthwhile to me.

The electronics are serviceable, giggable.

To take a decent bass, make it a respectable bass .... sure it's a total money loss. But I'm not selling it. I'm playing it.

A foam mute at the bridge can help with the thumpty-thump-thump.

I sort of prefer thumbing + palm-muting because it gives me a bit more flexibility. I like employing various techniques just too much.

Of course, I did try the mutes of my Rick, but...

Same here, I don't use the Ric mute on my 4003. I'm a natural palm muter. It's very easy when you play with a pick.

Last wee

Rang my osteopathic surgeon today via all this internety stuff. One of the two screws in my foot may be a candidate for removal. We talked about this when I saw her in January. Difficult to say what's going on.

What is going on is the Acinonyx is in port and making its way though customs. Giving a lot of thought to the big blue bass with the VVTT + switch reconfigured with something more useful for a bass. And as thoroughly unknowledgeable one can possibly be in these matters, imagining what I want to hear from this bass I don't hear now. My very practical thinking is a switch that's shorter. As is, the switch is taller than the knobs. And if we're going to go in there, my understanding is the Les Paul VVTT is not exactly ideal for a bass.

All of which is more fun to think about than an ouchy foot.

Which Carvin?

I have two - BB75 and BB75F both strung E-C. Love the BB75. The BB75F sounds so much different even on open strings. The only difference between the two, besides frets, is the BB75 has string through body at the bridge and the BB75F does not. The BB75 has a much more aggressive sound. I have Rotosound Swing Bass 66 on both. Those strings made a huge difference for the better on the F but it still sounds completely different, much softer sound. I contacted Carvin to see if anything changed in the active preamp and they said no. The difference is there in passive mode as well.

Does the string through on the bridge make that much difference? I have not tried the BB75 with normal stringing.
