I myself am just not a fan of decorations at all, much less Halloween an Pumpkins, etc...Christmas will NOT be discussed yet.

But I am having either a partial or total kidney removal early January, so my light buy killer rig is being pared down even more - so the wife can move it. We figure 20-30 days then back to gigs but extremely limited lifting for months. Yes, I'll be sitting down, but I'm old, so I do that a lot anyway.

OT: For Sale: right kidney...60 yrs old, heavily abused, may have cancer, may not...taking offers

I'm kind of sad because Halloween is my favorite season. I work in an organization where every office now has orange bowls of mini candy bars out. God I love those things. But I can't eat them anymore! My blood sugar was very high but now it's dropped to almost a third.
I have to lose more weight and eat less flour based food like bread, cakes, etc. I have to eat more veggies and careful on how much and what kind of meat I eat.
Are any of you familiar with Metformin? I'm taking 2000 mg of that and it scared the wife. Dr. said that's a typical dosage and it doesn't hurt my system. Then I'm taking a tiny blue pill that "gives the pancreas a jump start." Whatever that means.
The Dr. said if I work hard, moderately exercise like walk 30 minutes a day, and drop 50 pounds, I can first reduce the dosage of the Metformin and the other pill, and if I drop down low enough, all I have to do is monitor my blood sugar.
My former Dr. used to quip, "Better living through chemistry" and wink. God, it's true now. 30 years ago pre-diabetes would be a life altering scare. Diabetes used to kill more people than it does now.

Hang in there buddy, you get used to walking by the candy dishes. Tell your wife the dosage means nothing. It depends on the drug. My thyroid meds are in micrograms. A miligram of that would kill you. I have old school cholesterol meds that are 1 gram ea. (1000 mg), and harmless. I take 3 G to 6 G per day and the max dose is 10 G per day. Stinkin' horse pills too! Sorry @agedhorse ! So the dosage depends totally on the type of medication, then factors like weight and age. Some medication don't even leave the digestive tract. Not absorbed. They just interfere with absorption of stuff you are not supposed to be getting.

I've handled a few horse pills in my time. One of my horses is on allergy meds, Zirtec... 15-20 pills but they are small. Then there's the Sulfa based antibiotics, dosages of 20 grams or more depending on the size of the horse.

Tator Salad my Jack Russel get a 1/4 of an antihistamine + steroid K-9 pill for her allergies. Might be a little smaller, about the size of half a BB.

Thanks guys. Oh and @BadExample thanks for reminding me-- I also take a cholesterol busting pill! But it's a small one a day, and that one too can go away once I lose the weight and my diet changes my body chemistry. @agedhorse I kind of appreciate the humor of your handle and talking about horse sized pills... I'll take a laugh anytime I can get one... :laugh:

A story you old farts will appreciate...

For next year's state fair, I have been contracted to perform a Roman Gladiator segment with my big gray horse, including a chariot. Typically I train for a different show every year (this year was a pirate segment, complete with ship and fireworks).

Going through the list of things to do, I have figured out what is going to be the most difficult for this old fart to do...

1. Train the horse to pull the chariot? Nope, this should be straight forward, I taught my horse how to learn quickly.

2. Building the chariot? Nope, I have a good fabrication shop so building pretty much anything is pretty easy.

3. Costumes? From my touring theatre work I hooked up with a pro costume woman who totally rocks.

4. Music? I have this easily covered.

The hardest part is going to be losing 10 pounds because nobody wants to see heavy gladiators!

Will it keep until, say next summer when I'll be needing one? Is a vintage kidney better than a spankin' new one? What's the BEST vintage for a kidney transplant, and, would you get a female one rather than a male replacement?

Realistically, I hope all goes well and that they take the organ out for no real reason. I'm not mentioning the "C" word.

I dropped 20 lbs in a 2month period on a strict Atkins.
Steak, chops, greens butter bacon... Lots of water and my blood sugar is on the low end of normal , no more Metformin for me.
If I stick with it, I plan on dropping another 30 by spring.
(im 51 6'3" i did weigh 230)
My 20yo weight was 145 yipes!
Goal is 160-ish.

Yes, I am. Or was. I've graduated to Insulin. One thing you need to be aware of is if you ever need anesthesia (and I hope you don't), be sure to stop the Metformin 3 - 4 days before the procedure. Don't trust that your Doc will tell you this. During a pre-op interview before they put me on the table the anesthetist almost crapped his pants when I gave him my list of meds which I had previously given to the surgeon, hospital, and anyone else who asked. Big sigh of relief when I told him I had stopped it several days before the procedure. Just sayin'.
