I caught that point and I think it was very rude. Also, likely rude to the other bass players. Why would they want to audition on an unfamiliar bass? If the others knew what was up, then shame on them too. Double rude to you for not telling you that you were being auditioned and for not telling you that you were helping others audition against you. Maybe better for you to not be involved with that group.

Lack of honesty really gets my dander up. I've had this sort of thing happen a few times (business oriented) where the dishonesty from the start became crystal with hindsight.

Like when I was working on phase 1 of a job and my competitor arrives to do a walk-through after I had already signed an agreement for phase 2... and they give him phase 2 because they didn't like that I would not promise what I could not deliver. Competitor promises and doesn't deliver, now they are pissed at both of us. I walked away because they forgot that they paid me a deposit for phase 2 that became their cancellation fee. That was the straw that broke the camel's back... I shut down my installation division that day! I was done being jerked around and taken advantage of, lied to, and then accused of being an uncaring a-hole for taking a church to small claims court because they refused to pay for equipment they purchased from me. Most of my issues like this were with churches unfortunately, the feeling of entitlement to not pay, to make unreasonable demands, to lay on the guilt, to take unilateral discounts just doesn't work for me.

Jaw drop. They forgot to read the parables! I hate dishonesty, lies and deception, especially in the work place, where many seem to think it's OK. But in a church? Appalling! A lie is the ultimate form of disrespect.

"... in the name of.... anything..." It's unforgivable what people will do to each other in the name of. @BassmanPaul that was a bad thing and you didn't deserve it. I agree with others that you should find a new group of friends to play with. Don't let this get you down, sir.

Find a group of friends you know you can count on and play with them for the enjoyment of playing. If the losely formed band starts sounding great see if everyone's up to performing publicly. You may have fallen into the best thing trying that method!

I was once told by a well respected TB member that happens to live in Nashville.. He was like the "religious" musicians "can be hard to deal with".. i say.. it isn't just there.. but everywhere.. i don't understand all the manipulation and using folks.. instead of being upfront and honest.. you probably will find the right musician for your band faster that way!

Memory is just a bit foggy, but I think he said something like, NOOooooo, you can't touch THAT! And get off Canada's lawn!"

My GOF friend/customer just had a (wet) liftgate accident which resulted in a compound fracture of both bones of his lower leg. He won't be on my lawn for a while it seems. Could have been a hell of a lot worse.
