My 8 year old daughter asked me last night if she could do an impression of me. I wasn't sure what to expect. This was the first and only take. I figured many of you might relate (and laugh) with the snapping and the multi tasking. Covid changed a lot of things this past year and this has been a lot of my reality!

Ohhh, you're in such trouble...she's got you nailed, and she's really brilliant. You're going to be doing some quick-stepping in the years to come.
It's an old gripe, but it checks out... The not-yet-released Ampeg Rocket Bass combo, specifically the 200-watt 1x15" is specified by its manual as 100 watts @ 8 ohms and 200 @ 4 ohms. And, of course, it comes with an 8 ohm speaker instead of a 4 ohm one. It seems like most, if not all, manufacturers do this, except in the lower-powered models where, for example, a 100 watt combo with a 12" speaker will put out the full power. I'm woefully ignorant about the technical esoterica of amp and speaker design, but it would be refreshing to see combos that give full measure.
I know what you mean. That allows them to sell an 8 ohm extension cabinet and make more money. Also with two cabs and more speaker cone area you get more volume, it isn't just because of the higher output power. Some people want less power in a compact package so that option is available.
Ampeg used to wire their speaker polarity wires backwards. With any other make of extension cab wired in the standard way, the two cabs would be out of phase and wouldn't sound good together. Use an Ampeg cab and it sounded much better. The fix was easy, just reverse the speaker wires but not many knew about that.

It would be nice if a company would advertise their combo with a power rating that is matched to the internal driver (i.e. how it will actually perform by itself) and then state the power available at 4 or 2 Ohms (whatever it can handle) with external cabs. Of course everyone wants to make their numbers appear as big as possible. So I suspect we'll have to read the fine print to get the real story at least for the rest of my lifetime.

Yep. Ampeg's PF-350 head states it on its rear panel: 250@8, 350@4. And what are the portaflex cabs? 8. So to get 350 out of a single-cab portaflex, you have to buy the PF-500, labeled as 350@8, 500@4. And, as beans said, they push extra cabs. Everything's a racket. Except La Bella flats. And they're prolly overpriced, too.
ETA: This whole gripe is a "principle of the thing" complaint. I've read more threads about how there's not much difference, etc., etc. to the point that my teeth itch, so I get the idea. But 'taint right to sell you an amp or combo and in effect say, "Oh, now, you aren't really going to get all that out of it as it sits. To do that, you also need to buy this little beauty right here and combine them." Smacks of sleazy used car sales , to me.

I think that players fixate too much on specs. Most don't understand what the specs mean, nor do they really want to. Three of my Ampeg tube bass amps I call loud, louder, and loudest. That's all that's needed.

Specs are something I use to guide me to what I will try out - from that point on, actual performance trumps specs any day for me.

Yes, exactly. This whole thing is academic for me, but if I were choosing between the two, I'd still take the PF-350 over the 500 because its simplicity is more up my street. I don't need all the extra stuff. I think I'd be able to make it sound the way I wanted it to without all the extras.
