My first time in Europe was 1971. 4 West German Marks for $1. 13 Austrian Schillings for $1. 1500 Italian Lira for $1. I saw a new VW Beetle for sale in Italy for over 1,500,000 lira, when they were selling in the U.S. for well less than $2000.

My biggest problem was overspending in Austria and Italy. You'd see something for 400, look in your wallet and see thousands, so, what the hey, 400 is nothing.

Except at the end of the day when you finally figure out how much you really spent.

A 5000 south korean won lunch will cost you $4.50 US. It would be nice to have a world currency. I don't see it happening any time soon. North America can certainly adopt a single currency but that won't happen either. The same company in Mexico and Canada pays people way less for the same job than in the US. There is no such thing as equal pay for equal work. Till that changes, unified currency will not happen.

BitCoin is the one world currency - for now. The good thing is that as long as no entity owns 51% or more of the currency, it can’t be debased.

and I concede that spring is here.

The Iron Lion-free patio under Odin's yard is where I take a close look at bare legs and considering everything are just fine. The year has worn on well and I commence the Braun Adventure. A cardinal is watching me. There's a blue jay who shows his/herself now and again. The only bird I can reliably gender is the peacock, I think.

What I've seen is a lot of pop science about peacocks and peahens. Browsing different sections at the bookshop is a great treat on an afternoon.

Afternoon espresso works out to so little, I buy for everyone. Espresso and gelato is so absolutely civilized I don't know why it's not practiced everywhere. Well I do know why on these American shores. My afternoon espresso time in Milan is the top of the press cycle in The States. Things will stay interesting until the press starts.

Used to be only the authorities had access to the printed word. Controlling the message is pretty easy when the peasants are illiterate. Medieval life ain't bad if you don't mind short and brutal

Sharpened the mower blade. I don't know how I got through life before Dremel. It's a tool you don't think you really need then end up using it several times a month.

Speaking of Dremel, bought this today to cut Formica sheet and other stuff.

Easier than the circ saw and it was an excuse (poor) to get another tool. Replacing the old Formica on the BBQ cabinet I built several years ago and redoing the top on a kitchen island/shelf thingy I built.

Mowed part of the yard. It's various varieties of macroweedia nuisancious. It's green, don't care. We don't use a lawn service. Some of the St Augustine died off last fall for some reason. I had heard it was too much rain in the spring then a form of fungus/mold.

I have one of those Ultra Saws. It is VERY LOUD. It also goes through blades, buy lots of spares. In hindsight, router with a track would have done a better job for my cabinet making application. I have a formica bit for the router.
