Does seem like the end of 2016 will be a welcome sight. Between all the deaths (celeb and more importantly otherwise), the turmoil, etc, this has been a stinker.
That's pretty sad Andy. It sure leaves an emptiness even in a strong man.
On a lighter note, I get a full day of crack today. I mean baby. I even woke up early without an alarm. That never happens.

I get what you mean though...but I'm more of a recreational grandbaby user. It's great to have them around, but sometimes the best part is when they go home.

An hour with her last week got me hooked. After today, she won't be a baby by the time I see her again. In the 80's I used to baby sit her dad when he was 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 years old. Terrible two's? Nah, I just put my flight deck boots on him over his shoes and he'd walk around like a drunk. He thought it was a hoot and he had to focus so much on getting from point A to point B he couldn't get in trouble.
We babysit our 19 month old grandson every week and will be with him all day tomorrow. He's a delightful little kid and pretty bright, but full of boundless energy. I'm sure my wife and I will be tag teaming all day and will be exhausted by tomorrow night, but every time he looks at me and says "Hey, Boppa" my heart soars.
Ethan ... Grandbaby #4. Born 1 month premature and we didn't know whether he was going to make it through the first few nights. He did stabilize after a week and was sent home with his mom (my daughter). One week later my daughter was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and started chemo two days later. My wife, who works full time and I decided to take Ethan until my daughter finished chemo (I'm retired).
Yup, so at 62 I became a full time, stay at home gramps/dad.
Making up bottles, changing diapers, feeding and walks with the stroller became my daily routine. Guys ... talk about a game changer! Certainly not what I had in mind for retirement.
Ethan is 20 months old, now, and we are transitioning him back to his mom. We still have him three days a week and even though we know it is so important to get him back with his mom and siblings, full time, it rips our heart out every time we drop him off.
I travelled a lot when my (three) kids were little so I missed a lot of the little things when they were growing up. I have been there for all of Ethan's development markers ... love it! The bond we have developed blows me away. It has been really hard but at the same time has been an awesome experience. His first word was ... Gram ... pah.
Ethan and I spend a lot of time walking and playing outside and I take him to a local Early Years Program - a drop in play time, every Monday morning. I am normally the only male and definitely the only "white haired" person there!
Definitely not what I had planned for retirement but I wouldn't change it for anything.
Oh yeah ... my daughter beat that @#$%@ cancer and is in good health.

It's amazing how grandkids bring up such strong emotions and revitalize our lives. We found out a few weeks ago that grandkid #2 is on the way and couldn't be happier about it.

2017 Predictions:
- Dance music will see a huge resurgence, with 2 steps replacing the moronic twerk as a national trend
- People will discover they have more in common than not...except the tube/solid state folks. They will be fighting long after the Apocalypse
- Small powered PAs will be available by prescription for anyone over age 60, thus rendering stage amps completely obsolete
- Medicare will also cover the cost of someone to set up/tear down said PA gear for anyone claiming gig money as income
- Streaming music will become cost prohibitive as ISPs will be responsible for paying royalties
- None of this is meant to be taken seriously, but a few of them might be nice

Sweet Jesus, what have I done. I've turned the GOF thread into a baby thread. Thank you Ken for steering us back to reality. I'll add some:
We will finally experience the dream of Whirled Pea's! (As some anomaly will cause the pea crop to astronomically accelerate while other crops all but diminish, making peas the only affordable veggy to the common man. Coincidentally, dairy cattle will overproduce from their all pea diet, making the cream for whirled peas almost free).
The price of gas masks will soar anywhere near dairy farms. BUY NOW!
Car prices will go up 10 to 20% as automakers scramble to comply with new indoor air requirements mandated on cars without any warning or grace period to comply.
Midwestern programmers will be trapped in their homes hiding from cow stench and program constantly, resulting in on-line translation software to include Brit<->US<->International English translations which finally enable us to communicate effectively with @BassmanPaul
Starting in the Midwest and spreading whirled wide, GOF's will become grumpier, meaner and more careless with their postings, resulting in bans, closing of the GOF thread, reports to their ISPs and even litigation. The only exceptions will be Sir Paul, the Ever So Kind, who will remain unaffacted by the grumpy storm.
Family will disown GOF's whirled wide. Not to the increased grumpiness, but to the nauseous gasses only an old man on an all pea diet drinking pea beer and pea wine can produce.
@agedhorse will grow tired of the BS he puts up with here, be reduced to mainly a heckler, like me, and spend most of his time in his stable where the air is fresh, full of barn/horse dookey odors and free of cow-pea-fart odors.
Midwestern Carvinites, stuck in their home will unite. We will start a general Carvin club and the new unity of the silent many here will also spread whirled wide. By July 1, most or all members who don't own a generator will buy one and begin hoarding canned food. Most of us have plenty on hand anyway, and NO WHIRLED PEAS. On new years eve 2017, we will all connect a sacrificial non-Carvin 2 x 15 and simultaneously strike low B's or drop E's, bringing down the power grid, beginning the apocalypse. We will Rein the Whirled!
Unlike Ken's predictions, mine are serious and will come true!

So did I, but he was an unyielding "xxxx" who had only one opinion and wouldn't consider ANYTHING else possible even when the science, engineering and successful implementation proved otherwise.
