I forgot and added the most important prediction for 2017:

Midwestern Carvinites, stuck in their home will unite. We will start a general Carvin club and the new unity of the silent many here will also spread whirled wide. By July 1, most or all members who don't own a generator will buy one and begin hoarding canned food. Most of us have plenty on hand anyway, and NO WHIRLED PEAS. On new years eve 2017, we will all connect a sacrificial non-Carvin 2 x 15 and simultaneously strike low B's or drop E's, bringing down the power grid, beginning the apocalypse. We will Rein the Whirled!

So did I, but he was an unyielding "xxxx" who had only one opinion and wouldn't consider ANYTHING else possible even when the science, engineering and successful implementation proved otherwise.

Ah...one of those guys.

I hate when that happens, regardless of who/what the circumstances. Seen it far too many times in various pro audio, music gear, what have you places. Sometimes things just...work well...even when 'science' suggests it won't, so just get over it...

Sometimes there are is more to people up and leaving than meets the eye, though.

Even when the science was good, and presented with verified factual data, if it didn't fit his narrow definition of acceptable, it was considered bunk, and in a very personally hostile way.

We don’t have any grandchildren. Well we did once. One of my son’s friends asked us if we would fulfil the “Grandparent” role for their three children. They had no family to speak of. After due consideration, it’s a lifetime commitment after all, we said yes. Birthdays and celebrations were hosted here and we’d cook a big dinner and a nice cake. Always there were gifts for the kids. Christmas, let’s not forget Christmas! You could barely see the tree for presents.

Then the couple split up. The mother would bring the kids over as usual but then it became too much trouble. She seemed to have no inkling about what a tradition was. On one of the trips late in the fall, I noticed that the tyres on her minivan were badly worn. We decided to buy her new tyres as a Christmas present. I took the van into our mechanic to install them. He called me and told us the steering and front front suspension were dangerously worn. $1800 later the van was safe. I just couldn’t bear the thought of her and the kids driving on highways at speed in an unsafe vehicle.

A couple of years back we had heard nothing about them coming for Christmas so we called. She responded that she was trying to fit us in!!!!! She couldn’t, so much for tradition! All the gifts we had bought the kids we donated to Toy Mountain so they would at least make some kids happy.

In January the father called and said he was bringing the kids over for Christmas. We had donated their gifts so we took them all out to the Keg for supper. We haven’t heard from any of them again except when the mother brought them over before school started. Traditionally, that word again, we had taken the kids out shopping and bought them new clothes and school supplies. We took them to dinner instead.

I guess you can tell the world of hurt that we both feel. It really burns me that I fixed up her van and it takes them everywhere except here.

Thats really terrible, Paul. Most or all states here have no grandparents rights. Across state lines, forget it. Unless the mom is proven abusive, she almost always gets the kids in a divorce. My mom's BFF was completely cut off from all her grandchildren. No phone time even. Her family had money and outlawered them, resulting in him having no visitation rights. Then her son who only wanted kids which led to the divorce moved home and hung himself within a year.

This type of thing and witnessing the atrocities man inflicts on the weak has hardened me to the point of refusing to get close to any meatbags in person. Im closer to Internet friends than anyone I didnt already know by the 90's, when forums came to be. I do get semi-close to coworkers, but like the internet, there is no expectation of permanance.

To keep it light, when new coworkers ask me how I like the workplace, I say, " Oh, I dont mind the job itself, but the PEOPLE!"

When they leave, "Hey, give me your email so we can keep in touch for a couple weeks and then forget each other."

you know, i noticed that, but i'm not the scientist/technologist that you guys are: but i was struck by his 'demeanor' almost everytime. sometimes i think it helps others to be something more than just an "expert."

It's not being an expert that's the problem, it's the unwillingness to consider that the science allows for other possibilities.

What i have noticed is, that in part you have two groups when it comes to him.. one says his demeanor was in part due to him being badgered, the other being because of the narrow views and gruff presentation..
