I expect he has a good reserve. He'll need it for when I arrive unexpected, unwanted and uninvited! I'll be living about 24 hrs North of him via an admirals suite on a luxury cruise ship. Last visit to the Phils, I took such a journey about 3/4 of the way to his area. 17 hrs to Bocolod City, Negros Occidental. The ship and room was so nice, I didn't really want to get off. I think it was about $100 round trip. That was from Manila, but I hope to never be in Manila again. Well except maybe for a visit to the Carvin dealer or the Emerald Restaurant, where I ate 2 Kilos, yes, like 5 Lbs, of lobster when I returned from Bocolod. I could go for another 5 lbs of lobster fr maybe $20!

Okay, truth be told, I finished up my lifetime allotment of beer and other such consumables 30 years ago. Been clean an d sober and the best part: not dead, since then. That's one reason why the coffee is so important.
Yeah, Manila sucks. I always fly through Cebu. Plus it's closer.
Update: I thought I might be getting a little too melodramatic with the laying over my daughter to protect her during the earthquake. But I was just sitting here and looked up our stair well with vaulted ceiling and two 3' x 5' plate glass windows on the second floor directly over where we were pinned to the floor and realized that if the glass had shattered....

You did the right thing. I'm sure you are her hero now, and probably before the earthquake too. Thank goodness that glass didn't break! I imagine a lot of people will be living in fear for a long time.

I might be far behind on the clean up thing. My BP was in the 150's and up as high as 187 last week. I got it under control for now, but it's time to loose a few vices. No desire for recreational drug use, especially not in the Phils where the stakes are so high. Has the shabu (methamphetamine) problem reached your area? That's a mess and a big problem in my town here. Last year we had an average of 1 heroin death per day as people turn to it when they are out of whatever they are hooked on.

Quake update: Aftershocks continue with vibrations every few minutes and larger 4.0 to 4.8 sized shakers every hour or two. Hard to get sleep, especially as...
My bro in law, who I love and is a great guy and his wife are staying in our "tiki" house in the backyard as their house is falling into the river. His hobby is the national pastime and sport - cock fighting (I know, I know, at least they eat the loser for dinner).
Anyway he brought six roosters that need wrist watches. 4AM it's cock a effin' doodle do. Like it's a competition. Living here I'm a little used to it but not right outside the window. LOL.

Yeah, shabu (meth) is a real problem, even the mayor is rumored to be dealing here. Fortunately he was out of town for the quake and the vice mayor who is a friend of ours and a good and honest guy was in charge of the emergency.

Wow, that sounds terrible. I'm sorry to hear it just keeps going on and on. Those are pretty strong aftershocks, especially days later. I hope your ladies are holding up OK. Although it's getting into your sleep, it's probably best your dear brother-in-law is there to not see his home slipping away, or worst yet trying to stop it or save stuff from the house. I'm really sorry to hear your loved ones are suffering.

To be clear, the owner of the winning cock is the one having fried chicken that evening :D

I hope things get better soon!

It will take a little time but we will get things back together. At least the family had a good laugh at my complaints about the roosters. I am lucky to have a wonderful family here. We will probably build a temporary "bunk house" in the backyard for them. They might be able to Jack their stilt houses back up.
The folks here are resilient and very proactive. The bridge that collapsed looks like dominoes, with three sections leaning against each supporting pier. They already built three stairs so pedestrians can walk down the stair then up the next bridge panel then down the next stair, etc. That was done by the second day.

They really do pull together. I'm sure it will take some time. Any progress on clean water? I fear for the health of those with less. Especially their children and pregnant or nursing mothers. I wish there were a practical way to send tarps to you. Balikbayan box takes too long. I will keep your family in my thoughts.

We can get water less than a half mile from our house. It's a ground water source on the roadside for watering livestock trucks. Clean enough for washing and flushing. We still have filtered water jugs for drinking.
The aftershocks are still coming, but are decreasing in frequency and strength.

There must be a lot of people hurting for food and water, especially in the cities. It's easy to take the bare essentials for granted here... until they're gone. Great to here the aftershocks are at least starting to diminish and that you were prepared. I imagine most people there couldn't afford to have a stock on anything. I can't believe the aftershocks are still coming. I feel so sorry for you and everyone. Just that aspect of this will have a long lasting effect on a lot of people. I hope to poor are getting relief. Thank goodness the good guy is involved instead of the guy that is in with the shabu people. Is power on and somewhat stable? Utility people must be working feverishly.

Thanks for your concern. There are several water trucks delivering in the city. We are on the outskirts and have a different water system and resevoir with less damage than the city. The gov. is distributing rice and the fishermen are able to fish so life goes on. Power is okay for now.

All good news, sir. I hope things come back to normal soon. I sure hope they are able to maintain civility in the cities were people suffer most from this sort of thing. Also hoping the aftershocks stop soon. That sound so bad not being able to sleep for a long time. I hope you and your family and extended family are all doing OK.

Just to be clear; when I moved here almost six years ago people, including family made comments like, "what the hell are you doing?, are you nuts?, what do you want to go to that third world sh**hole for?.
The friends and family that really know me said things like "what took you so long for THIS adventure?, awesome! I wish I could go!". And my favorite "All righty, another Brainstorm!!" That one from my best friend Billy RIP.
So I go through life taking big bites out of it with the gravy all over my face. Now I am blessed with a kindred spirit by my side and a female mini me for a daughter.
Damn the aftershocks, full speed ahead!

I'd pull up stakes and pack today if I didn't have to be here to keep the money machine running! The only thing I worry about is the ever increasing violence from the shabu problem and getting there and setting up camp. After that, bahala na! I was never afraid or unhappy there. My wife lights up like a Christmas tree when we go there and that makes me happy. Leaving is the only part I don't like.

You certainly are blessed sir, with your lovely ladies and location, your son who is a genuine hero and an extended family that loves you. We have some very good family in Camarenas Norte and some central and South. Hopefully we can find some good kids among them to take in and send through high school and collage. As soon as I can access my retirement funds without big brother taking almost half, I'm packing!

Well, I have one: trying to search for information about a cab I can use with both gtr and bass...yes I know certain sacrifices will be made for each, but acceptable sonic for each but having to carry just the one is dang sure preferred than schlepping 2 discrete rigs.

Yes, I've worked out the preamp/switching already...;)

I worked late all week :(

Ken, have you checked Carvin speakers? I've never heard them, but they are pretty full range. Not very expensive. Most of those who have them here on TB seem to like them. Of course there is that human instinct to go into denial if yer junk sux :D I really like their specs and pricing, but you have to buy sight unseen and return if you don't want to keep, so that is not so good for many. Good reviews by owners, hated by non-owners. No personal experience here, maybe @BassmanPaul can opine? I'm a hack, so don't listen to me :whistle:
