Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

Sigh…

I guess I’ve lived a more sheltered life than I realized!
I studied with the soloist for the St. Louis Philharmonic for 3 years in the early '60s. When I got to high school in Wisconsin, I turned out to be way more accomplished on the keys than anyone else in school. That gave me some amazing access to instruments. The school bought the Yamaha (!), believe it or not. Access was VERY closely controlled. I could play it any time I wanted. I made it in to our Madrigals group not because I was the best tenor (I wasn't), but I was the only person who could walk up to the piano where we were performing and lay down a 7-note opening pitch (we had 13 members: 2 each 1st and 2nd soprano, 2 each 1st and 2nd alto, 1 tenor, 2 bari, 2 bass). I had to work REALLY hard on my intervals.

This group has 15 members, but it's the same genre.

Very nice.

Now the grumpy news. FedEx has my passport with the French visa I need and will deliver it Monday morning. I was scheduled to fly to Paris with my brother and his wife on Tuesday. I'll spare you the details, but they bailed on me. So I'm sitting in a Marriott Residence Inn in with 3 dogs trying to figure out how to get myself and the puppers to France.

Anyone know anyone wanting to fly to France from Chicago in the very near future? I need two volunteers.

Maybe a carryon big enough for all three.

Are other people getting this banner at the top of the page?

"We've had 6 confirmed cases of supporting members having their accounts hacked, because of password reuse. The hackers then use your account to post FS ads and steal $. Please use a unique password for TalkBass. Better yet, turn on two-factor authentication. Check your email at https://haveibeenpwned.com to see if your personal info has been leaked by previous security breaches at other sites."

Just wanna make sure that it is not something that is invading my personal space. When there are links, to click it makes me a little skeptical.

Yeah, I got it. Went to it. Says I've been hacked(?). Offered to let me know who, how many...for a fee.

Yes. I don't click on links like they posted. How do I know that TB hasn't been hacked.

I got this as well. It has all the hallmarks of a scare tactic scam to get you to click a link that will cause you problems. If TB has been compromised and my account was impacted I would expect to be contacted by a site administrator directly.

I have the report card reputation for "does not listen to, or follow, directions" when it comes to forwarding chain letters, mindlessly repeating others' posts on FB, or for clicking unsolicited links, especially if they mention hacking. o_O

In this case, here on TB, I now do a Search on the homepage and click on "More ...". There I click on the "Search in Forums" space where it says "All Forums". Then, on the pop-up list, I un-select "All Forums" and go down the list and select "Classifieds [BG]" and "Classifieds [DB]", then click "OK" at the bottom of the list. Now the "Search in Forums" space says "2 selected". Then I enter my username in the "Posted by Member" space and click the "Search" button. Then I can review the list to see if there are any posts that appear to be by me that I did not actually make! That will reveal, to me, if my TB account has been hacked without giving my email address or password to another website.

Even if I get a very legit looking email that appears to be from one of my other online accounts, no matter for whatever legit sounding reason, I never click the link in the email. Instead I login to that account by my own, separate navigation, and do my own checkup from there.

Only a few times in my life did I ever get a phone call(!) from someone requesting logon or password "identification" that turned out to be legitimate. And those few had no problem with my precautionary insistence on me calling those entities myself, using my documented numbers, to get back to them. They all said they were very glad I did that, and that I wouldn't believe how many people just tell 'em whatever they ask on the first call they ever give 'em! But I do believe it!

I was/am good enuff to play left hand bass and chords-on the right keyboard-so the real players can go nuts.(lessons from 7 to ~16 but never "good"...
Apparently, you never had Dr. T for a piano teacher.
I've heard people say the same thing. They are apparently a bit brighter than a Steinway and more stable to environmental changes.
Perhaps, those are a couple of reasons why Chick Corea traveled with a Yamaha.

There are a couple of airlines that actually permit two small pets in one carrier. I have 3 of these Sleepypod Air carriers ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed]). They're fantastic. They have a seatbelt restraint system built-in and a small portion of each end can fold up for tighter (cattle car, back of the bus) under-seat storage.

Chick has a really well done web site. A lot of transcripts, book, CD’s, etc are available. Traveling must be difficult when you have to stop so often when he’s the pianist one on the bus.

As the bus drivers in Bavaria used to call out when they pulled over to the side of the road...

Pinkel pause!

Men on one side of the road. Women on the other. An effective solution.
