As to those who seem to derives pleasure in vandalism all I can say is that it's a crime I've never understood. Stealing a Rolls Royce is a crime that has a purpose, defacing a Rolls Royce serves no one in my mind. Perhaps I lack the necessary foundation, experience, and/or education to appreciate the workings of the deviant or criminal mind, but at the end of the day you can use something you steal, often times no one can sue something that's been vandalized.

As for civic responsibility I've seen a clear shift during my lifetime from appreciation for and understanding of rights and responsibilities to a belief that there are simply entitlements and rights you get for being alive. The only time I hear the word responsibility used these days is when someone made a poor choice and wants to get someone else to pay for the consequences.

Certainly I feign no expertise in why people make the decisions they make. I expect it goes a great deal deeper than I will ever know. We read Thornton Wilder and I don't know the answer either.

It can be attributed to mischievous youthful indiscretions. Some grow out of it especially when they become a victim of such actions.

Defacing property is such a senseless act. It upsets people that see it as it disrespects everyone that has to look at it. I also can’t believe the extent of littering that goes on. Some mornings it looks like a disaster zone with garbage and beer cases everywhere. This is all down to university age children who have no respect for anything. There are never any consequences.

I don’t get the lack of enforcement against graffiti perpetrators. I see new examples every Monday morning. In the park, there are statues that are defaced. There are surveillance cameras around one large one from all angles, yet time and time again this goes on. The city goes to great expense to clean it up.

What’s really insulting is that property owners have so many days to have graffiti removed from their buildings or THEY are fined.

and a recollection of dinner at boarding school. It's semi-formal on weekdays. It's a strict dress code, and classmate cred points are awarded for dressing right but wrong. Ah yes, manners. All tables are proctored and we all learn impeccable manners. I believed I came from a household where good manners were a matter of course. That bar was raised at school.

Fashion is a funny thing. Remember in the '80s when it was the thing to push the sleeves of your sport coat up.

Perfectly legit back then...not so much anymore. Shirt untucked with a sport coat? It's a matter of whatever some designer wants to call his own, not what is proper.

I guess I better up my game when going to Lowes to get something in the middle of a project. My usual attire - shorts (sometimes jeans, probably with holes in them), t-shirt (semi-clean looking), old tenny shoes, ball cap (facing forward).
