Adding a delivery comment on my amazon delivery today worked like a charm. He came to my door, knocked, and waited. Followed my instructions to the letter.

But I think that I found an even better solution for my replacement delivery tomorrow. It turns out that Amazon has secure lockers at depots all over the city. It’s a free service. Also turns out that there’s a place just a whoop and holler away. So tomorrow the package will go there so I can try the system out. When it arrives, they send you an email with an access code and barcode, you have three days to fetch it. There’s also a camera in each locker to prove that the delivery was made.

A clear recollection of the multiple shakedowns that I, as an accredited and background-checked representative of the fourth estate went through to conduct prison interviews.
seen enough.
arguably, seen too much.
Sounds like theres plenty grist for a song there. Mebbe an album full!!??

It's been a long time since I held a press pass. You go down to cop shop central. They roll your prints and take photographs. Off it goes through the bowels of bureaucracy for eternal preservation. Back comes a cop-issued pass with the name of your employer, and the city is open to you. With the understanding the police department holds the cards. The chief wants good press ....

Mayhap one might see something on the street
yeah I know what goes down

As a member of the press I was afforded some degree of autonomy I'm not entirely certain is available today.

The last thing I did as a newspaper employee was write a front page obit. I was working the wire that night. Only one reporter left in the building at that hour, and she was busy. Slot editor gave me the work. Wrote the obit, we put the paper to bed, and I flew to my new job the next morning
Company owner from the West Country owns a Lotus Esprit. This looks like a good place to work, I tell myself.
That was a long time ago. Another century.

It belatedly occurred to me some while ago (probably because of posting to this thread) that I still dress the same way as I learned to dress in boarding school. Only in retirement did I notice this. And to this day, probably overdress for most places. I don't mind. Have loosened up a little but nobody has seen me in jeans since I was 12. I don't even own jeans :bag:

When I went to work for my last former employer the dress code was slacks, nice shirt, and tie. Didn't have to wear a coat. After we relo'd to DFW, we kept that but it slowly changed. Tie went away first then later, nice jeans with a shirt (no t's). With all of the turn over and exit of some management folks there was no one to say any different. Sure was nice having a more relaxed atmosphere. Even nicer when I stopped going to work altogether!

I'd be surprised if she did not get the ruler out....for spanking, that is.

In the 5th grade a guy didn't do his spelling homework. The teacher whacked his knuckles with a ruler and was yelling while she was doing it. I got sent to the special ed class for an afternoon for not doing a home work assignment. Yeah, teach, all that stuff is a real incentive and develops character and self esteem. The lesson I learned is don't do stuff like that to people.

Met the new home owner today. Notice I didn't say neighbor.

He was unloading stuff from his car. I walked over and said "Welcome to the neighborhood." He just stood there. I waited a couple of beats then said, "I'm Gordon. I live next door." Waited a few more beats - nothing. Then he said "We're setting this up for an AirBnB. It should be ready in two weeks." Nothing else. I said "Well, hope it works out for you. I'll let you get back to your moving." Weird. For 390K + maint and taxes, he better hope it works out.

I wasn't too thrilled about hearing that but as long as he takes care of the place and we don't get any whack jobs it should be okay.

If one wack job doesn't work out there will be plenty more to come ;). This is usually short term stay stuff, isn't it?

I predict there will be whack jobs. My sense is there are more whack jobs on this planet than non.

I believe your prediction and your sense to be true.

Chief Broom is thinking about that.
