It's one of those things you either deal with or move somewhere warmer. Personally, I'll take a Michigan winter over a Florida summer any time. If you're too cold you can put on more clothing. If you're too hot, there's only so much clothing you can take off before they arrest you.

I can endure the Michigan winters because the spring and summer are great. Autumn is nice too but I start to get depressed when it gets too cold for cycling around early December. After New Years I start the countdown to spring, knowing that in 8 weeks or so we'll start to have days warm enough to ride.

I breed, train Bird Dogs when I'm not woodsheding trying to get my chops back. Nothing better than seeing a Brittany pointing a covey of quail on a crisp fall morning! They don't complain and you don't have to put them through college.

41C Here on Sat. - my Wife is sched. to do a Market, though the Organisers reserve the right to cancel over 35C.
Have to remember to put out water for the Ringtails.and Maggies.

Woke up to 45 degrees in Sitka. Sorry guys. Soft breeze this morning almost felt like spring.

Why is it that every time you see a dog you just can’t help smiling?

Same goes for horses.To see them all galloping around a field, manes and tails tossing in the breeze, throughly enjoying life is indeed a delight!

The old ones are especially appealing!

Looks like 3 more days of bitter cold, then Sunday the temps return to a more normal level with highs in the 25-30 degree range. That'll feel balmy compared to the last couple of weeks. I don't remember ever having temps so cold for a such a long period before.

Interestingly it’s warmer at the North Pole and on the surface of Mars than it is here in Toronto at the moment!

Pretty much any collection of non humans beats a collection of humans. Horses, dawgs, cats, flock of birds...all are welcome sights, as none of them will riot, steal from you, set your stuff on fire because they disagree with your political views, etc...

fortunately they stop where they need to MOST of the time

...and this is the part that terrifies city folks like me! As long as you know right commands, a 100 pound K9 virtually always stops whenever and wherever you want them to. And on that one missed signal out of thousand it's only 100 pounds and not a half-ton coming straight at you!

Those guys are full of energy and love to run.

Sure do. I run em off of a quad 3-4 times a week. They stay out in front of me anywhere between 300 yards to a half mile. They get in about 8-10 miles of covered ground based on my Garmin collars.

Your are justified with your concerns... I have permission to run my guys on some neighbouring ranches. I have about 6 sections of land for them to run on.

Well, ok. Here's the best dog I've ever known and my best buddy, Jake the wonder dog.
In his favorite position

He's an old fart too, but definitely not grumpy. He groans when he lays down now, just like me.

This is his other favorite position. Being a Golden Retriever, he's happiest with something to carry in his mouth. When he's awake he's as playful as a puppy.

My other best buddy isn't a dog, but he's as loving as one.
