Why I rebuilt the gear box in my 25 year old washing machine. Easier than a manual transmission, which isn't very difficult for the willing.

I've been keeping my 34 year old Maytag washer and dryer alive with some very minor repairs (belts, hoses, etc.) every 5-7 years simply because I know I'll never own anything made that well again. They still look like new despite having seen hard service lifetimes.

Simple reasoning... in our neighborhood ours is the only building for 4 blocks west and at all east that has not been converted to primo Office space. Right off the downtown area, the neighborhood is really nothing but lawyers, accountants, etc...which have no need for kitchens.

House built in 21 as corporate house for Gulf Oil. They signed it to an exec on his retirement who lived here until the late 30s. A state senator/1 term US senator lived here until his death, sold to a doctor. We are 2 blocks from where George HW Bush raised his family, including George...and since all these folks were connected, it’s possible there have been at least 2 presidents in myliving room.

Of course, that’s all OLD Midland...long before the self proclaimed beautiful people abandoned this area a# residential.

Mine finally got rust in the from life in the basement, still alive and relegated to life as a shop rag, garage clothes and dawg towel washer. I gave up on the old drier when the drum bearing failed... just looked too painful to replace. So i took the advice of appliance techs and bought the high end, modern front loaders. So far so good. I spent $500 on boards with a 100% return policy, ended up being the motor drive board which was only about $40 after returning the core. I spent $200 easy on new timers for the old washer. The drier has never had a problem, and has some really nice features, like steam for wrinkle free drying. Kind of weird to steam something you are trying to dry, but it works.

IMO, anything worth cooking can be cooked on a good charcoal grill.

I have to admit that we settled on Maytag appliances years ago. All have been super reliable. The dryer needs a new element every so often that I used to replace. Now that I am in my dotage I call peter’s Appliance Repairs and let them do it. Doing so supports the local economy. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Our stove is a Whirlpool unit that has also lasted very well. Yesterday I striped it down and cleaned every piece. Dorothy was delighted that the receptacle sockets on each side of the cooktop were gleaming white. I did take out the fuses for them before I cleaned them. Well it wouldn’t do if Paul electrocuted himself would it? I’d never live it down!

How many of you mind numbingly old fossils have video games? Wifus Maximus and I are thinking of a game console, but I’m a complete moron in this area - the last game system I bought that plugged into the TV had PacMan, Asteroids, etc.

We don’t have 4K...surround sound, etc...nor do we need to kill as many things as possible. Just mindless fun.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Yes, we have actual an Scrabble board, Backgammon board, and suc( already

This is not on topic as there are no topics on this thread, except those that one makes up...that's the nature of the beast.

But, being a GOF, I was thinking today (always dangerous), way back to the late '50's, before I got into bass.

I was, 11 or 12 at the time and had a hobby of raising tropical fish. My sister, some 4 years older, had some girl friends over and found an interest in my fish tanks.

I dutifully explained to them the breeding cycle of guppies!

To this day, I keep hearing references to how embarrassed they were, I wasn't...until later.

How many of you mind numbingly old fossils have video games? Wifus Maximus and I are thinking of a game console, but I’m a complete moron in this area - the last game system I bought that plugged into the TV had PacMan, Asteroids, etc.

We don’t have 4K...surround sound, etc...nor do we need to kill as many things as possible. Just mindless fun.

I suggest finding games(new and/or) that interest you, check out the system requirements and then choose the console.

Then why go down that rabbit hole? Do you know anyone who's better for having played video games?
Do something worthwhile with that money, like matching tattoos or body piercings.
Or take up an instrument. Bagpipes maybe.

Was he arrested for public nudity or for playing bagpipes? Public nudity is one thing. Bagpipes played well can be kinda cool, but bagpipes played poorly is, well, criminal.
