Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

Was a fairly quiet day here, as much as the local a-holes with their fireworks would allow. Two of the side effects of a boomtown economy are extraordinary levels of disposable income, and high levels of morons buying low grade explosives, the two of which come together in July and New Years.

Some of these things sounded more like small field artillery than fireworks. That’s fine at 7PM, not so fine at 2AM...
Feel your pain. It sounds like WW3 in my neighborhood, more like dynamite going off. And, of course, every neighbor has to compete with the other one, like outside Christmas lights. This year was definitely more quiet than others for some reason. My poor dogs hide under the bed.

And we've had idiots "practicing" all week.:banghead:

Happy 4th to the American GOFs that are still happy :D

I sepnt the day in bed, sick from heat again. Just up to eat and going back to ice cold now.

"Substrate Engineering." I can't get at it now to see any date codes.

Edit: Ha, didn't click post last night. Feeling somewhat better this morning...
Stay out of the heat bro @BadExample . Get better.

Ouch! Waking up to moderate smoke haze this morning, hope it's the last of that for this year.

We've been dealing with the same thing for almost a week now. 2 large fires, neither are yet much contained.

I've been following that. There's been a huge one in Central OR for the last week or so and I'm hoping this is just a wind shift situation and not a new one closer to home.

BassmanPaul I would go even further than just characterizing it as shared history. Having spent my entire professional life in the defense and national security fields I would say that Canada has always been considered an essential partner militarily and and an integral and essential partner from a defense industrial capability perspective.

I've served with many Canadian officers working on projects and operations over the years. We all simply accept each other as interlinked and interdependent partners. I only wish someone would share that background with our current Commander in Chief who sadly has no relevant military experience that I'm aware of - as a civilian DoD or Service component employee or in uniform.

Wife Carey used to smoke 15 years ago. She said Canadian cigarettes are STRONG! When we drove through Canada via B.C. (it was beautiful!) we had the most beautiful trip. Now I'm irritated that I have to get a PASSPORT just to go through Canada????? That is especially irritating to me because part of my ancestry is from Massett B.C. where the Tsimpshean Nation originated. About 10 years ago I could have applied for dual citizenship. I think I could have done that for Carey once I got dual. I'm not sure.

At least the dogs are smart enough to take cover.

I had to laugh. They are advertising dog anxiety coats on TV. The dogs and cats feel comforted wearing spanx.

Don't we all feel better in our spandex?

There are times where being at war with my Canadian wife is not all that different than being at war with all of Canada ;)
I can relate. There actually was a US Philippine war.

The US is not wrong in wanting fair trade.

In some cases the tarifs on Canada are needed. For instance, if the US imposes a tarif on steel or aluminum from China and instead the products are laundered through Canada, China is getting around paying a tarif. I believe this is why sanctions are being imposed, not to hurt Canada but to plug a loophole.

The US does a lot of trade with Canada. This is an interesting read.

Forgive me Lord...Our POTUS has made a big effort to surround himself with very experienced military leaders. He has made every effort to rebuild our dilapidated armed forces. I think I just committed social forum suicide! :-(
