Once, out at sea, they had an overstock of L&Ms-sold them for $1.20/carton. They sucked but at $.12/pack they weren't bad!

I remember on Post in Baumholder Germany the PX sold all major brands at $3 a carton. I didn't smoke but occasionally bought some of those cherry crooked mini cigars like Clint Eastwood. Civilians don't realize the tremendous markup on cigarettes due to taxes.

Thanks, but I quit when they went up(!) to $.35/pack on base.(1967)

We had a ration system on my ship. I didn't smoke (cigarettes) at the time but still had the ration card and faithfully bought my 2 cartons a week at $2 a carton. Entrepreneurship at it's finest!

Cigarettes really became valuable in the field. I remember getting them in my rations. The meals were cooked in garbage cans filled with water. Then a gas powered heater was put on the side of the garbage cans to heat the water. The food in the cans was excellent. Remember those tiny bottles of Tabasco? So I would trade the small packs of cigarettes for candy, biscuits, or desserts.

Finishing up load in by Monday, set up our area Tuesday & bring the horses in Wed for a final rehearsal Ghirsday and then 3 weeks of twice daily theatrical entertainment shows horseback
and of course to music!

Thanks for the kind wishes Will, fortunately I always manage to get it done. I think that's why they keep asking though, and at the end of the day I'm sort of a victim of my own success.

So...it’s Saturday morning. Hot wife and I are gearing up for our annual trek to Rosebud Reservation for a spiritual Sundance. Won’t be there the entire time this year, as us enexpected but very much needed and long awaited Doc appointment came open the daw AFTER we wer3 supposed to leave Texas..
So if all else goes as planned, we only miss a couple days.

Saturday morning. The heat spell we have had has finally broken. My 3 year old grandson is starting to wake up. Party this afternoon at my sister’s place with two live bands. Then we are off to a birthday party at my son’s place.

All packed for a one week off-grid trip to Algonquin Park starting on Monday. It’ll be the first time in the canoe this year ... love it!

Now hear this! Roll call all you burly, Grumpy Old Farts! Report all fingers, toes, thumbs, extremities on Fridays muster! We had a very hot day in Sitka today, it was upper 80's. Remember, our blood up here is thick, so 80 is like 100 to you down in the "Lower 48." Tomorrow the weather is good and I made the mistake of putting together our new barbecue. So guess what Will's going to be doing all weekend-- cooking meats on the BBQ for next week's meals LOL! But that will be fine. Don't want Carey over a hot stove when it's hot out. What you up to GOF's?

Present! Looking forward to Monday's disc injection. Hoping I can leave the cane after that and carry on my life.
