A friend of mine who plays around here a lot was a "member" of their band in the late 70s. This, according to the current official band site. He's a cool guy, but it's SO tempting to go all Beavis and bust on him about that description, especially since it was the late 70s.

Nice ride. I had to be at my stepbrother's wedding in VT that Sat., drove right by the Bethel exit on the way home and could've/would've/should've at least caught Hendrix if I had been willing to defy The Man and walk about ten miles or so.
Waddy Wachtel played with the band over the years. Seeing them do a great job on Beatle songs is a treat.

I’m sorry to lean that Ed King has died. People liked him in The SAC. His third guitar sound helped make Skynyrd better. The song describes a time.

Not bass related but sorry Burt Reynolds died. He was 82.
He was good in The Longest Yard.
As I understand it: Ed was fortunate enough to have gotten out of Lynyrd Skynyrd a few years before the crash. Then back in later when the remaining members reunited. Then he left for a bad ticker, but got a new one in 2011. I guess fame and fortune gets you head of the line on replacement parts.
I love that song, most Skynyrd, after I got over hearing it 24/7 for about 5 years

I heard that Ed was in The Strawberry Alarm Clock also... 'Incense and Peppermints', and all. GOF's we're going to see a lot more of our peers start falling off, actually they already are. It seems that fame and body abuse are intertwined. People grossly mistreated themselves feeling invincible. Now we watch those who lived like bright burning flames burn out. I never made it big but Carey saved my life. She calmed me down and got me "respectable."
Wakes used to be for old guys and friends gone too early. Now they're just for friends gone. I prob'ly wouldn't go to the damned things anymore if it wasn't for the whiskey....I mean it's not like any of the mofo's are comin' to mine.
