Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

Not open for further replies.
Gents;
At 557 pages, I read backwards 10 or so, and found nothing to do with amps.
A lot of pleasant banter, to be sure, and we do in fact encourage that.
And, there are places for that.

This was a group decision made after group discussion.
I don’t see anyone outright deriding this move in a fashion that’s problematic, but there are guidelines for how to interact with the mod staff.

This I know for a fact. There are members of this bunch of grizzled old farts that are technical professionals. I have followed many of my fellow GOF's over the years because they are all over the place in Talkbass. They freely give excellent technical advice to many other TB members. Regardless of where we live on TB, we are a group of technically minded people, some making a living from their technical excellence.

I imagine we all will continue to grumpily guide younger members through many technical issues because we are a curious and inquisitive lot-- and it's in our blood to be problem solvers and although we appear grumpy, most have golden souls that make a great contribution to Talkbass. I hold my head high and am proud to be a member of Amps-Get Off My Lawn-Grumpy Old Farts.

Popular with the Starbucks frequenting wannabee good ol' boys LOL.

As GOF's,we have a certain camaraderie that goes beyond technical discussion of amps. Aging-and the ailments that go with it, life experience, gig experience, etc. And I feel I have "met" some good folks I never would have known w/o coming over here, intrigued by the "GOF" part. I missed a couple of hours while dealing with a family medical situation so I don't know the reasoning, but to find out the thread has been moved is disconcerting at best. BTW, I prefer to do this post publicly b/c I believe there are others who feel as I do that we have Almost always discussed subjects of interest to the majority. Also, it's kinda difficult to offer suggestions referring to amps if nothing is asked for awhile. I have all the amps I'll ever need(maybe!),but I still read with interest other people's thoughts and sometimes I even have a helpful hint-or whatever- to share. One of the things about being an "OF", is disliking change. Color me not happy.

Personally I, for one, am going to have to think about this for a while. It seems to me that it’s getting harder to come here for a pleasant exchange and enjoy the experience. I am a Gold Supporting member because I believe in contributing financially to something I get enjoyment from. At the moment I feel sad. I don’t even know how to get to Miscellaneous! I fear that for want of a cohesive place to come to, all the GOF’s will drift apart and that would be a sin! :rollno:

Edit: I also feel that a supporting membership should count for something. People who give hard earned money shouldn’t be treated like naughty children and beaten over the head for not adhering rigidly to the rules. Rules should be ‘bent’ to accommodate the wishes of the people who pay to be here.

Agreed. And I, too, am a supporting member(blue).:(

Actually, you shouldn't have to go to miscellaneous. Just click on the Alerts icon up top and all the post you've replied to, in any catagory, will come up.
I get it though. Some folks are just rulers and enforcers by nature...The Wyatt Earp syndrome.

BassmanPaul and everyone;
Relocation of the thread won’t change your getting notification every time someone posts.
Finding the Misc forum is no harder than finding Amps; it’s in the same General Forums subset.

Fella's it's not a good idea to question the moderators or other staff in the open forums. Better to just PM him if you have concerns.

I don't see how it matters where our thread resides. What matters is what our thread is and who is in it.

Hi BadExample :)

This is just best for anyone concerned, and best for keeping the thread open IMO.

I don 't know! Most of the guys on this thread, like to hang on "Amps and Cabs".

I don’t see anyone outright deriding this move in a fashion that’s problematic, but there are guidelines for how to interact with the mod staff.

Hi Chef :)

thx for not moving this thread to "Off Topic" ;):D

may the bass(and the amp and cab) be with you

Wise(b)ass

There are literally hundreds of pages of non-amps content in this thread.
Discussions of cheese, port, qualities possessed by moose. Etc.
Which is fine, and by far and away the bulk of this thread.

And what’s wrong with that Chef? It’s what the thread was created for. Old guys tend to ramble at times. You’re young yet but your time will come! :)

We are hurting no one in our ramblings. It sometimes gets used as a Social Forum by we who have no other outlet to go and chat with like minded souls.

At one time I was a computer expert but no longer. This change might seem simple to you my brother but to we who only ever come to Amps, it’s where my Talk Bass link brings me, it’s a very big change without a really good reason!

We over Sixties face life altering changes every day as we face retirement both from our employment and, for some, in our playing lives, our health and the myriad other happenings beyond our control. What is so wrong in just leaving us be? Most of us are, after all, paying for the privilege!

@Chef you're basically saying that the existing topics of discussion can continue
in this thread. Just it's been re-categorized under miscellaneous under [Bass Guitar]..
Or that's where it is now.

Well then maybe it should have never been in amps to begin with... ?

Correct

To quote again to make sure people understand. If you're already getting alerts for this thread then absolutely NOTHING will change about it.

Who's being treated like a naughty child? No one got any warnings, no points were issued, no one got banned.. A thread was simply moved to a more appropriate location. It happens every single day. How are the GOF's going to drift apart? Nothing about the threat itself is different except its location. Also, if you're implying that paying money allows you to be exempt from rules, you are sorely mistaken. I give to my local police organizations, that doesn't give me cart blanche to drive however I wish without reprocussions.

You get to Misc the same way you get to any other BG forum. Click Forums at the top of the page, click General Forums [BG], then click on Misc, or amps, or Off Topic, whatever you want.

We will never find the thread in a different location.

You posted in the thread after it was moved, you clearly had no issues.

The subject matter pertains to amps hence the thread title. Police action necessary.
My initial visit was concerning Ampeg amplifiers. Although it has been a pleasure guys thanks and farewell

You're going to stop visiting a thread (or TB?) because a thread was moved? Ok...

May I be so bold as to ask who comprised the group?

A group of moderators, myself included, and the opinion was unanimous.

Also, a gentle reminder to everyone..

Rule #5: Questioning a Moderation Decision Publicly If you have a disagreement with a moderator (If your thread gets deleted, if you get a warning, etc.), DO NOT post your complaint publicly on the forums. If you would like to raise a complaint regarding a moderator's actions, start a private conversation or email the moderator. If the moderator's response is unsatisfactory, please contact the forum admin staff by clicking the "contact us" link in any page's footer.

Any issues can be sent to the Help Desk by following this link or clicking "Contact Us" at the bottom of every page.

If content continues like the last page and a half (constant complaining and borderline rule 5 breaking posts), it would not surprise me to see the thread get closed. I do not want that, and I'm sure none of you do. So please, everyone, just accept that this is where the thread is now. It does not change who can see or post in the thread.
